Teen DS is dying to watch Squid Game. DH is all for it. I’m unsure as it’s v.violent. What do you think?

Erm aye. That was kind of my point to OP. But if DS wants to dive in at season 2 then ??

Like an idiot I completely misread your post and thought you were asking about season one. Ignore me. Clearly my literacy skills are as subpar as my parenting Wink.

WigglyVonWaggly · 28/12/2024 15:55

No. Graphic violence.

Thepurplepig · 28/12/2024 15:58

I think horror is really subjective. As a horror junkie, I love all things scream but can’t watch paranormal activity. Love all the Halloween films but still have to fast forward through most of SAW. I’m also still terrified of that fucking clown pennywise after 30 years.

Squid games is more psychological. The horror parts are over very quickly. I’d let him watch it.

Stickseas0n · 28/12/2024 16:21

I'd say yes.
My 10 year old wants to watch it and has watched some of series 1 on YouTube at a friend's

Orangelight23 · 28/12/2024 16:38

Yes, there isn't much I ban at 13/14 to be honest. Waste of time since they can look up almost anything either on their phone or a friend's phone. Best to let them watch and then be there to talk about it if needed etc

Whenismytime · 28/12/2024 16:43

God no. I think an adult with a developed brain watches differently to a young teen. This is how stupid tik tok suicide trends happen.

Ironthrone · 28/12/2024 16:49

My 13 year Old Has watched season 1 and all of season 2 already.

I watched season 1 with her when she was 12 and I had already watched it once. Shes watched season 2 before me.

However I am a horror lover and my daughter is going the same way.

livingafulllife · 28/12/2024 16:51

Ive seen it my honest thoughts are its bloody crap not worth the hype it was so bland and boring.

I am also a horror junkie but I find all the scream films really naff and love the paranormal stuff such as Annabelle, conjuring etc.
The Saw movies are some of my favourites. Cant wait for the new one.

I remember watching the ring as a child and thinking that was scary 🤣 obviously not enough to put me off horror films!

popandchoc · 28/12/2024 16:56

No it goes too far on violence etc for me . I don’t think 13 year olds should be seeing that . I let my 13 year old watch 15 films etc but not this .

StrongandNorthern · 28/12/2024 16:57

Absolutely not.

Wordau · 28/12/2024 17:02

I would be absolutely livid if my 10yo watched Squid Game at a friend's house on YouTube.

That's neglectful parenting IMO.

Nomdejeur · 28/12/2024 17:03

It depends on the child surely? My DS 13 has watched the first one and has started the second. I know he is absolutely fine with it, it didn’t scare, upset him and it hasn’t turned him into a psycho as far as I can tell. Now, similar aged children I work with would be either trying to copy/play fight the scenes or would be traumatised. You know your child OP.

MissRoseDurward · 28/12/2024 17:25

He’s not silly and understands it’s not real.

Just because something is fiction, that doesn't mean it can't be disturbing or upsetting.

Even as an adult, I've read things in novels that have stayed with me for a long time afterwards, or that I wished I hadn't read.

DancingLions · 28/12/2024 17:42

Ultimately I don't think you can say yes or no to a particular age. Some kids can handle it, some can't.

I don't think occasional TV horror/violence is that harmful. Different if that's all they were watching but the odd movie or TV show isn't going to warp them for life. And yes, I did let my DC watch the odd thing and they're both in their 30s now and perfectly normal human beings!

DS went off horror and isn't so keen on it now but DD still loves it.

Nowadays I'd be a lot more concerned about how much porn teenagers have access to. Squid game wouldn't worry me at all.

xyz111 · 28/12/2024 17:44

I haven't seen the 2nd season yet, but I wouldn't. There are age ratings for a reason.

MagicalTimes99 · 28/12/2024 17:52

Nope. I wouldn't.

My 6yo is desperate to watch it, I have no idea how he even knows what it is!

Stickortwister · 28/12/2024 17:57

Not a flipping chance. Third child is 15 is watching it now from the start.
Tbh I'm surprised it's rated 15, the violence is very full on..... No sex though so I guess that's why it's not an 18.
I'm a big fan of it and think it's fantastic TV but not for younger teens.

WonderingWanda · 28/12/2024 18:00

No way

Goldenmemories · 28/12/2024 18:15

Children's brains aren't fully formed yet and can't cope with watching disturbing content. So, no.
