Moving into first home - what do I need?

I am soon moving into my first ever home. I need to buy pretty much everything.

Currently I have:
Bed
Wardrobe
Bedside table
Plates
Bowls
Sofa
Vacuum cleaner

I need to get everything else. I am making a list of things I need and have most of the obvious kitchen items on there (cutlery, oven gloves, kettle etc). What else do I need? I will have a garden too. Anything I may not have thought of or anything that's been a lifesaver for you?

A table?

A stepladder comes in very handy and a basic tool kit.

Charity shops are a absolute godsend when getting your own place. A decent toolkit so you can do small repairs by yourself?? Also a torch in case of power cut/electrics not working

I’d buy it as you go along, don’t get too much to start with.

Cleaning things, you need a dustpan and brush, something for the kitchen floor, and a bucket. Buckets are so useful.

Screwdrivers (buy an electric screwdriver if you can), scissors, small hammer and some pliers.

Lamps - bedside lamp, floor/table lamps for your sitting area.

And don’t be too practical - you need some cushions, throws, pictures, house plants, things that will make the place your own.

Oh and
3 x pair of scissors - 1 for living room, 1 for kitchen and 1 for bedroom, finally done this after years of "where's the scissors?"

I agree, better to buy things gradually as you need them.

If you have a garden that seems unloved at least get a handful of flowers / veg seeds in pots (or ready to be planted in March). Be something to look forward to in summer.

Tea towels, dishcloths, cleaning cloths.Sweeping brushes(inside and outdoor), dustpan and brush..Garden shed/storage box and tools.Watering can
.Storage baskets, drawer dividers. Hooks to hang things on. Toolkit. Labels: use post'its to tell yourself what goes where.

Good sized notebook to record things all in one place: from names of tradesmen to the colour of paint you used, day bins are collected and when the tip is open, library opening hours and bus times

Buy as you go along and need it. I just had a sleeping bag, clothes and a tool box when I moved into my first home. My landlady lent me a saucepan, crockery and cutlery and one pair of curtains for the bedroom. There was a sofa, fridge and cooker there already and after about a week a bed.

I bought a towel and cleaning stuff within 24 hours and then slowly added to it as I could afford it. The item I was most desperate for was a washing machine as I was fairly rural so getting clothes washed was expensive.

Arrange for the locks to be changed and for the carpets to be professionally cleaned

Everything else buy as you need things.

Def a trip to ikea a week after you move in

Lawn mower in the spring, my last one came from Fb marketplace.
Tin opener/bottle opener/scissors.

Or just have 1 place that you always return the scissors to?

If you don’t have curtains or blinds, get some concertina paper ones as a stop gap. You can cut them to the size you want and whilst they aren’t cosy, they’re fine in the short term, especially in the bedroom.

Mugs, tea/ coffee, fridge for the milk, towels, bin bags, cleaning bits, chest of drawers, pots/pans… the list is endless. I wouldn’t go mad- as long as you can sleep in comfort and make yourself something to eat and drink you’ll be fine for the first few weeks. I personally like to get the feel of spaces before I decorate or personalise them, which will be easier once you’re living there.
