Think I may have eaten raw chorizo sausage

I bought these from Aldi. Took them out for our Christmas Day evening buffet. Decided I’d try one and started eating it when I was reading on the back they need cooking! I spat most of it in the bin. They looked like they were ready to eat.
I am travelling down to see my family for a second Christmas in a few days , I hope I haven’t made myself ill for it 😔

If you’ve eaten it and it was a mistake, you’ll find out soon enough if you’ll be sick. Not much you can do about it now though.

Soapbar · 25/12/2024 20:17

I spat it into the bin - I may have ingested a tiny amount but I spat most it in the bin.

Cooking or can be warmed up ?

SporadicMincePieMuncher · 25/12/2024 20:19

What does it say in the packet about preparing, serving and or cooking them?

WiseLurker · 25/12/2024 20:19

They only get warmed up in the oven for 6 minutes, I don't think they are 'raw' as such.

fungibletoken · 25/12/2024 20:21

Is it these OP?

If so, it looks like they only need cooking for 8 minutes. I can't believe they're raw in that case - they wouldn't be done that quickly. I'd expect it's about making them more appetising. Crossing my fingers for you but I'd hope you'd be fine!

Oddsquadnumber1 · 25/12/2024 20:22

Chorizo by it's very nature isn't 'raw', is it?

SporadicMincePieMuncher · 25/12/2024 20:22

If it's these you're fine. They're cured - you could eat the whole packet without cooking them.

ScribblingPixie · 25/12/2024 20:22

The pork is already cured - you should be fine.

Magnastorm · 25/12/2024 20:23

If it was firm then it's been cooked already. Raw chorizo is soft like any other sausage.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/12/2024 20:23

It'll be fine, assuming it's not been left out since the 23rd on the countertop after being opened.

I'm somebody who will only eat fish or seafood on the day of purchase and regularly say 'You remember that I'm on meds that affect my immune system, right? Now, how long has this been open/out again?'.

A scrap of Chorizo is nothing to be worried about.

flippyfloppy · 25/12/2024 20:23

I think it's heavily cured so not really 'raw' it's heavily preserved . I am pretty sure you will be ok , I'll keep fingers crossed!

True, but Aldi also do more like normal sausages that are chorizo flavoured but are raw and need to be cooked.

These ones seem like your common or garden variety safe to eat raw chorizo though :)

Yikesthathurt · 25/12/2024 20:27

honestly, what are you going to do with any knowledge? Best advice: take action if and when something happens. Until then, forget about it.

Soapbar · 25/12/2024 20:28

Yes it is the ones in the links above.

I only chewed it then spat it into the bin, so didn’t even properly ingest any of it.

You’ve 2 options? You’ll be fine or you’ll not be fine!

That's how much pork went into the product.

There's not really much you can do OP. No one can undo it.

Ironfloor269 · 25/12/2024 21:47

I eat these straight out of the pack all the time. I buy it from Lidl. It’s never caused any issues.

SporadicMincePieMuncher · 26/12/2024 19:54

That's to tell you the pre-cured weight of the meat, because the curing process removes water weight. It's on the label of all (most?) cured meats, I think it might be a legal requirement. See this one: The Deli Spanish Chorizo Slices 120g | ALDI

In comparison, these chorizo STYLE pork sausages contain raw uncured or cooked pork, and the label and cooking instructions read differently:

Specially Selected Pork Chorizo Style Pork Sausages 400g/6 Pack | ALDI

Intensiv14 · 26/12/2024 20:00

I sometimes eat chorizo without cooking it, as like others have said, it’s cured. I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Depends, there are several different types of chorizo. Some are fully cured and don't need cooking, but some aren't and must be cooked.
