To think MIL is being extremely rude

This year my kids are all elsewhere for Christmas, one is working, one is on a gap year in Australia and one is with her boyfriend.
We offered to come up to MILs and make her dinner and save her travelling, but she is being bloody well rude.

First - she invited 3 of DHs cousins and 2 kids to join us, so I've gone from making dinner for 3 to cooking for 8.
Second - last night we put some Christmas music on (think wizzard and wham) and she complained they couldn't sing, it wasn't real music and got out her little MP3 player, put her earphones in and sung loudly over it
Third - She got up at 6 am and opened all her presents while everyone else was still asleep. She's since complained non stop about one of the gifts
Fourth - I planned to make dinner for 3, she's now complained endlessly so I'm having to make it for 2 when no one else will be hungry yet.

AIBU to think she's been bloody rude? She's in her 80s but I don't think that's an excuse!!

My mother being odd with presents and wanted jydt to open all of hers straight away at Christmas was with hindsight an early dementia sign.

Sorry to say this seems quite likely- very sad.

@Izzy24

She was actually assessed recently (other medical issue was actually causing confusion and that's under control now), told no signs of dementia!

Mines not uk based, have to send gift later because she will open as soon as it arrives and then tell everyone she got nowt for Christmas. It’s always wrong size/colour. Then will wear it for next year and loves it… oh the joys😂 I have found she likes the attention of moaning so that’s my Christmas gift every year

Making an 80 year old listen to Wham and Wizzard is elder-abuse.

A dressing gown ... she doesn't like the colour 😅

Never mind the dressing gown, is the MIL small enough to be frisbee'd out the window?

Being loud, rude, graceless, shoving her earphones in and ignoring people. . .maybe MiL's next steps will be slamming doors and saying "whatever!" It's not unheard of for older people to take on some of the characteristics of Kevin the Teenager. I'm not making light of your situation (after all, it can be beyond tiresome when actual teenagers behave like that) but it's quite common!
