For the first time in a long time I don't have to make a last minute dash to the shops for a forgotten item so have the whole day to bake and cook. What goodies are you rustling up today? I thought I might make some Christmas muffins, some little tarts, some vol au vents for the buffet later. Anyone cooking something lovely I can shamelessly copy?

Sticky toffee pudding and gingerbread tiramisu for boxing day. A pavlova for tomorrow.

fixingmylife · 24/12/2024 08:05

I'm going to be making some mincemeat as I need to use up some suet that was left over in the packet after making a Christmas pud.

StiggyZardust · 24/12/2024 08:05

Today is sausage roll day. I shall be making 643 small ones!

AhBiscuits · 24/12/2024 08:07

I'm baking sourdough bagels. We'll have them for breakfast with smoked salmon tomorrow.

Cherry and sultana scones to have with our mid morning coffee. Sausage rolls and mince pies for this evenings buffet.

Par-boiling potatoes and preparing other vegetables ready for tomorrow's lunch.

Jellycatspyjamas · 24/12/2024 08:11

I have the ham on cooking just now ready to bake tomorrow and I’ve just put the red cabbage on the slow cooker. The carrots and parsnips are par boiled and resting in the fridge in maple syrup.

Shezlong · 24/12/2024 08:15

I'm making a meringue christmas tree, Yorkshire puds and the red cabbage. And maybe some cheese straws.

643!!!!!

I’m making veggie sausage rolls. Some will have red onion chutney in and some will have a bit of crumbled Stilton. All will have squished Richmond veggie sausages.

I’m also doing a pile of stuffing balls to go in cobs tonight with Quorn turkey.

I might do a batch of spiced fairy cakes too, if I can be bothered.

SquatBetty · 24/12/2024 08:21

I'm going to boil then bake the gammon later and have the first taste.

Might do a dessert thing later too, probably Nigella's sticky toffee pudding - not even a massive fan of sticky toffee pudding but her version is IMMENSE in every sense of the word.

Campbellcarrotsoup · 24/12/2024 08:22

I'm cooking a Christmas eve feast for my european friends - I have to remake a carrot and coconut cake thst I made yesterday to mature as I forgot to add butter - that eill teach me to multitask. I'm making one of jamie oliver filo cheat quiches and I have a large salmon baking in the oven. I'm toying with the idea of cheese scones as well

TheWayOfTheWorld · 24/12/2024 08:23

Pavlova, lemon shortbread and marmite/parmesan pastry pinwheels

Woodythewonderpony · 24/12/2024 08:24

Nigella’s Yule log, two quiches, trifle and maybe cheese straws and a chocolate pie depending on fridge room.

ByHeartyCyanMentor · 24/12/2024 08:25

Cheese scones for breakfast tomorrow.
Roasting a ham and brining the turkey. I used to prepare veg but I get it prepared from M and S now.

DelurkingLawyer · 24/12/2024 08:27

Salmon en croute for this evening and a chocolate raspberry roulade for pud. For tomorrow, a limoncello and blueberry trifle.

Dinodrivingacar · 24/12/2024 08:28

Mince pies with the DDs. And then prep the veg and potatoes for tomorrow. Looking forward to today so much. All cleaning done, work finishing. Totally chilling out!!

GardensBooksTea · 24/12/2024 08:29

I'll be making chocolate truffles (v easy Delia recipe) with my 9 yr old - it's a tradition which involves us and everything around us getting absolutely covered in chocolate...

FrenchFancie · 24/12/2024 08:30

I’m late with the baking this year due to finishing work so late, but it’s a mince-pie-athon in our house today, followed by fresh bread…

Runnersandtoms · 24/12/2024 08:30

Meringues to go with the chocolate brownies I made yesterday, and going to try profiteroles. Also need to cook nut roast for dd1 to have on xmas day.

Falseshamrok · 24/12/2024 08:31

Sausage rolls

BarbaraHoward · 24/12/2024 08:32

Ham, stuffing, cheesecake and veg prep here today.

Meadowfinch · 24/12/2024 08:32

Chocolate sponge snowmen, and gingerbread Christmas trees with green piped icing. My piping is much better after several glasses of fizz 😊

Maybe some more mince pies because ds is at the 'inhaling food' stage and I keep finding the tin empty.

Ham is already baked. I'll prep the veg last thing before bed.

Middlemarch123 · 24/12/2024 08:34

Sausage rolls, cheese and pesto straws, mince pies, coconut buns.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/12/2024 08:38

I have a spare packet of puff pastry. Is there anything I could make (savoury) that’s easy and wouldn’t necessarily mean going to a shop? I have lots of cheese, onions, pesto, Marmite, lots of herbs and spices.

Greyrockin · 24/12/2024 08:41

I'm not baking today, but my DN is going to pop by later to drop off some of her delicious homemade cookies - she's a fabulous baker.
