Accidentally insulted neighbours by cursing about the parking

I have a house that sits next to only one other in a semi-rural setting. We have one short access road with a turning circle at the end. Since I moved in the neighbours had two project cars parked in the turning circle, meaning both me and the neighbours had to either back down the drive (reversing from a main road) or turn the car by driving over part of my lawn. This was not ideal but they were new neighbours and it was important to me that we get along. So I politely enquired about the cars to my neighbour and he worked out a plan to move them into his garage. So far, great.

However, his grown kids tended to now use the turning circle for parking when they dropped by for the weekends. So I got use of the turning circle for most of the time.

Here's where I may have been unreasonable. I got back from some frantic shopping this evening and there were two cars parked in the turning circle. The drive being pitch dark, I got out of the car and ranted to my self "urgh, its not a f**king car park". As I got the shopping out of the back I heard a door shut. One of the neighbours kids was out in the dark and had hopped into one of the cars! He MUST have heard me. He probably thought I was talking to him!!

I now dont know what to do. Do I apologise to my neighbours? How the hell do I bring this up without sounding like an awful human. I much prefered the softly softly approach. Advice please.

Well you’re right, it’s not a car park and they should be be parked there.

WearyAuldWumman · 23/12/2024 21:01

Don't apologise. They shouldn't have parked there.

suburburban · 23/12/2024 21:02

About time OP. They are being very unreasonable

AgileGreenSeal · 23/12/2024 21:05

Do nothing.

Mum2jenny · 23/12/2024 21:07

The local council may put double yellow lines down if you explain the problem. I have managed to get this done in a similar situation

FlamingoFloss · 23/12/2024 21:08

Just leave it. You’ve done nothing wrong.

GrumpyPanda · 23/12/2024 21:08

Unreasonable to apologize. Theyre being massive dicks.

2025willbemytime · 23/12/2024 21:12

Do absolutely nothing. Say nothing. Maybe park there once yourself in February.

Brefugee · 23/12/2024 21:13

no apology necessary. It is a turning circle not a car park.

EmmaMaria · 23/12/2024 21:16

The only thing you did wrong was saying it out loud accidentally...should have done it deliberately

Crumpleton · 23/12/2024 21:18

You've done nothing to apologise for.

The idea of a turning circle is to be able to access it at all times inorder to safely get out onto the main road instead of having to reverse onto it.

custardpyjamas · 23/12/2024 21:19

Assume they didn't hear, if they did maybe they will be more reasonable next time.

WhoopsNow · 23/12/2024 21:22

Do nothing. They shouldn't be parking there.

pestowithwalnuts · 23/12/2024 21:22

Id like to know what 'urgh' means

comedycentral · 23/12/2024 21:24

Assume they didn't hear, send your Christmas card as usual. It might make them consider their parking a bit more.

MumChp · 23/12/2024 21:24

It was the truth. I wouldn't apologize.

You don't know what "urgh" means? It is another way of writing "ugh". Been around since mid 1700s apparently.

It's the accent, I'm Scottish 😉

Suggest to your neighbour that you have "No parking in the turning circle" signs made.

PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2024 21:48

You accidentally insulting them isn’t half as bad as them being inconsiderate knob ends OP.

In that case, as a fellow Scot I'm bitterly disappointed that you didn't add "ye bwbag" to your exclamation of displeasure.

Id like to know what 'urgh' means

urgh exclamation
/əx/
/ərx/
(also ugh)
the way of writing the sound that people make when they think that something is horrible
Urgh! There's a dead fly in my coffee!

I'm baffled that someone is asking what "urgh" means and also that they don't have access to a search engine (a web-based tool that enables users to locate information on the World Wide Web) such as Google.

OP, you are quite right it's not a car park, and hopefully whoever heard you will pass on your irritation to the owner of the house, and they realise the inconvenience they're causing you. You have nothing to apologise for.

Swannyb · 24/12/2024 06:24

Hopefully they’ll get the message now!

Honestly, you’ve done nothing wrong. I wouldn’t worry about it, carry on as per usual.

Gettingbysomehow · 24/12/2024 06:30

My neighbour heard me bitching about his smoking to a friend. I was saying my house smells so bad he may as well come over and smoke in my living room.
Well result, because he's dome something snd I can't smell it as much any more.
You don't need to apologise or explain yourself.
