Accidentally insulted neighbours by cursing about the parking

I have a house that sits next to only one other in a semi-rural setting. We have one short access road with a turning circle at the end. Since I moved in the neighbours had two project cars parked in the turning circle, meaning both me and the neighbours had to either back down the drive (reversing from a main road) or turn the car by driving over part of my lawn. This was not ideal but they were new neighbours and it was important to me that we get along. So I politely enquired about the cars to my neighbour and he worked out a plan to move them into his garage. So far, great.

However, his grown kids tended to now use the turning circle for parking when they dropped by for the weekends. So I got use of the turning circle for most of the time.

Here's where I may have been unreasonable. I got back from some frantic shopping this evening and there were two cars parked in the turning circle. The drive being pitch dark, I got out of the car and ranted to my self "urgh, its not a f**king car park". As I got the shopping out of the back I heard a door shut. One of the neighbours kids was out in the dark and had hopped into one of the cars! He MUST have heard me. He probably thought I was talking to him!!

I now dont know what to do. Do I apologise to my neighbours? How the hell do I bring this up without sounding like an awful human. I much prefered the softly softly approach. Advice please.

Do NOT apologise. They are causing their neighbour (you) unnecessary stress at a very stressful time of the year (or at any time of the year when they are doing it really).

Perhaps if they realise that they are pissing their neighbour off, then they will stop parking there?

Is there any way that you could park where they are parking and cause them some issues?

Don't feel bad. They're being selfish! I'd have to say something if it continues but hopefully this might have given them a much needed hint!

itsgettingweird · 24/12/2024 07:04

Well it's not a fucking car park.

Hopefully they'll have realised you're right and stop taking the piss!

It's the accent, I'm Scottish 😉

Well then you can tell them you've done nothing wrong and to get tae fuck wi' their shite parking.

Hey, they unexpectedly got told. Do nothing.

BarbaraHoward · 24/12/2024 07:28

Good for you, you've been ridiculously patient.

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 24/12/2024 07:52

Why would you apologise? They're being incredibly selfish.

Well you’re right, it’s not a car park and they should be be parked there.

This.
Perhaps they need to realise how frustrating it is. Venting isn't the same as swearing at them, they just happened to hear.

I concur. Don’t be so wet, OP.

Offer them a square go if they give you any snaff. 🥊

Mine do this - I think they think their drive is in line with their front garden, so they park with their nose over the bump which marks the start of the turning circle! They are lovely people but it's not great having to do a million tiny manoeuvres to get out!

tilligan · 24/12/2024 09:16

Easiest solution is to purchase a "turning circle, no parking" sign, easy to find online!
