To think that Xmas food shopping isn't a sodding family day out?

Just been to M&S for final food shop and the bloody place was over run with entire families shopping together. Just why? If the kids are old enough to be left then they shouldn't be traipsing around and getting in the way when the place is crowded as it is at this time of year.

And as for people who can't drive the right way round a one way car park: kindly fuck off and don't drive if you can't follow road signs.

That's all. Now can someone please pass the 🍷

Maybe you could discuss it and then one of you goes.

I have better things to do in my time than discussing my shopping with my DH. Sometimes we go together, he does his, I do mine.

If you could stick with online shopping yourself and stop crowding the shop so we can shop in peace, with the kids following, that would be great. Thank you.

Auburngal · 22/12/2024 18:49

I hate parents who think shops are an extension to the playground for their kids.

Shops have never been or will be playgrounds! If they want to ride their scooters, there is a place for this. It’s called outside!

I don’t mind children in shops providing they behave themselves by not running, screaming, mucking around.

Can you food shop online at M&S anyway??

Ocado stocks M&S.

If both of you can supermarket shop efficiently, you're not part of the problem. Depends how well-behaved/efficient the kids are.😁

When I was home in the UK the other day, we went into the nearest city and it was definitely very busy. I can absolutely see how it could be stressful, don't get me wrong. The queues are my main gripe! It's nice seeing the DC excited about the food and other bits though. I can remember the excitement myself so my nostalgic self gets more excited on their behalf haha!

I hate queuing and I hate crowds lol!

My memory of the DC in supermarkets is more about them torturing me for things I didn't plan to buy. And seeing other children in trollies eating treats that hadn't yet been paid for. Mine weren't allowed to do that!

AnImaginaryCat · 22/12/2024 18:55

Probably not a day out. Not really enough to do - there's only so many types of cheese to peruse. Some people like goimg together and chosing things - allowing their children - even teens - to chose things.

Not everyone is stressed out their skull about doing the christmas shop. Some people aren't even a bit relaxed so don't mind having to wait till Once-A-Year Dan is inspecting the different choices I peanuts.

RedRobyn2021 · 22/12/2024 18:56

Food shopping at Christmas is not fun period. Children are allowed just as much space as you and I.

If you find it stressful (I do!) then have you thought about delivery or click & collect? It's a lot more straight forward and you don't have to deal with so many crowds.

You can't change what other people do, but you can change what you choose to do

I may be lucky in that mine don't ask for much, not for there and then anyway! And definitely no scoffing half the food shop before it's even bought! Maybe DH and I have spawned weirdos. 😂 They get excited about shopping and know they won't get fancy stuff if they arse around, so they restrain themselves from chaos until it's time to unpack!

LockForMultiball · 22/12/2024 18:57

Christmas supermarket shopping might be more pleasant without a minority of people charging around on their military operation with a face on, efficiently chucking predetermined items in their trolley as fast as possible while tutting and moaning at the existence of other people. It's nobody else's fault they feel the need to complete this mission during the busiest few hours of the year.

LemonPeonies · 22/12/2024 15:10

Yabu. This isn't the middle of the pandemic anymore, maybe get an online shop yourself?

Agreed, OP's post is kinda like when you've got a day off and are in town or whatever then complain about the public being in town.

"Shouldn't everybody be at work?"

popduckhe · 22/12/2024 19:02

I overheard someone saying they had spend £350 on food alone 😂 it's madness this time of year. Each to their own

MargaretThursday · 22/12/2024 19:02

My dc have always loved doing food shops.

It's great because now they are late teens/early 20s they'll be doing the Christmas shop without me. <smug>

It's surprising how many children are eating treats in the trolley that they haven't paid for - I wonder if the parents even do pay for them? It was something I was adamant my children couldn't do!

I definitely bought more shit when I had them with me though!

Babyswearing · 22/12/2024 19:08

Afraid I can't drive and don't trust dh to do it by himself so kids have to come. Sorry!

Leafy74 · 22/12/2024 17:53

How awful for you. Fat people shouldn't be allowed out on public. Their fatness causes problems for real people like you and me.

No problem with large people in supermarkets at all! Apologies if sounds otherwise lol

But in that precise moment , that blokes large body size made him think he can shove everyone out of the way to get to the tills quickly 😡 I'm a petite person as was the elderly lady

Biffbaff · 22/12/2024 19:09

YABU I would prefer it if all the grumpy gits stayed at home, so many of them about this time of year.

Cherrysoup · 22/12/2024 19:12

Where is open at 10pm on a Sunday night? Our ‘24’ hour Asda in a big city closed at 4pm today, as it does every Sunday. Apparently it’s open at 5am tomorrow, which is tempting, given I’ll be awake anyway. Seem to wake earlier and earlier now I’m older 😢

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 22/12/2024 19:13

Shopping with kids is bad enough at the best of times…. but at Christmas it’s unbearable!!

I go by myself if at all possible.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 22/12/2024 19:14

And you always get families bumping into other people who they haven’t seen in ages, who they simply must catch up with in the most inconvenient location ever!!

Flossflower · 22/12/2024 19:22

loveawineloveacrisp · 22/12/2024 15:09

I did an online shop for the main one. This was for stuff like pork pie & party food that you have to buy at the last minute due to use by dates.

My online shop is coming on Christmas Eve so I will have better use by dates than you!
YABU Maybe children want to see what they want to eat to.

This I have seen a lot and I wonder the same! I've seen some of them scan half eaten packets of crisps at the till, so I'd assume some do...but it also makes the conveyor belt messy! Crumbs everywhere! I buy them a drink when we first go in and then carry the receipt with me like a shield the rest of the shop. 😂

Oh, they do ask for stuff for the main shop. Every year DS finds something bizarre and then doesn't eat it. Last year he found a jar of little pickled octopus/squid? 🤢 DH agreed to get them and not one of us even opened the jar. Repulsive, and I like seafood!

Be big gaps on the shelves at that time in the morning, shelves are still being stacked.i would perhaps leave it till 9am as a lot of people hit the shop so they can buy alcohol after 10am .dw works at Asda I get the inside gossip.😃😘. can't delete last bloody emoji.

@visitbreakfast I dint mind if a family wants to shop together. But please don't block up the aisles, have the young ones running around, start shouting at them, and generally make it harder for everyone else.

Why are you telling me? I feel the same. OP is the one I was talking to, given she is the one with the issue.
