How much have you spent on Christmas food?

Apologies if a thread already exists I did a search but my phone is playing up 🤷‍♀️

After coming back from shopping earlier I seem to have spend an extortionate amount of money on food! Not as much as the person in front of me - theirs was nearly £400 (admittedly was Waitrose but I was seduced by their pudding on social media) but still I’ve done a quick check..

Butchers Christmas Pack - £90
Additional turkey £24

M&S - £35
Waitrose - £42
Tesco - £160 ish over a couple of shops (ham/leg of lamb/beef roasting joint and some other festive stuff)
Aldi £52

This is for 4 people for 4 days/meals and then an additional 2 people for one meal.

I am pretty sure I have forgotten some bits as well.

We don’t really drink so have topped up on soft drinks.

Next year I am doing a serious effort on cutting down my costs.

We're hosting drinks and nibbles tomorrow but we're out/away continuously from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve, so we've mostly bought drinks and a few other bits to take out with us Around £250 spent but I reckon there'll be a few bottles left over.

It’s easy
farm shop chutneys and pickles £20
veg £30 enough to include with freezer prep in our freezer
still need to know what the meat and seafood order will be but I’m betting £200 for both
add top up shops and it is what it is for our Christmas, grown adults, no children

For one day or for family staying for a week?

5foot5 · 22/12/2024 00:03

£73 total. Good grief that’s a lot for one day for 6 people, but how on earth are people spending £100’s?

But @HouseMoveHopeful am I right in thinking your costs are just taking in to account Christmas Day?

I think it's pretty clear that many people on this thread (including me) have been looking at what they are spending over the whole holiday period, so several days. In that context £100s isn't so surprising.

TofuTart · 22/12/2024 00:07

Just the same as normal, I don't see the point in going mental just because it's Christmas, way to waste food half the time if so.

Yes that’s just Christmas Day - but the rest of the week will be just normal food shop, but we are both on diets this year and money is tight with house move.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 22/12/2024 00:19

£160 on the Tesco delivery due Monday, but I have £52 of club card vouchers saved over the year so I only have to pay £108. I don’t do the Christmas dinner but I do make the stuffing (a huge amount made from scratch) and provide all of the desserts (3 main ones plus one dairy free option due to allergies).

Meadowfinch · 22/12/2024 00:27

Food shopping to cover now Saturday - Wednesday for two of us, and then just me for the following week.

I've spent £100 which includes roast duck for Xmas day, two bottles of Limoux and a kilo of gammon. The freezer and fridge are both full of eggs, cheese, smoked salmon etc., I have a stack of veggies and salad.

I don't expect to shop again until New Year.

Twoboysanddog · 22/12/2024 00:30

Hubby spent £193 today but i have already bought booze..we also still need to get turkey & few other bits..will be 7 of us christmas day but like to have stuff in for rest of hols in case others drop in

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 22/12/2024 00:35

£620 Ocado today
£500 Waitrose Cellar booze
£200 butcher
£200 additional shop booked for the 27th as we have extra guests

Do I win?! There are 6 of us but various people joining over the next week or so

namethisbird · 22/12/2024 00:40

£650 in M&S - this includes my food to order.
£480 in Waitrose (alcohol including champagne)
£350 at Fortnums

Will top up on Monday too to keep us going and account for guest joining us between Christmas and New Year .

Pumpkinseason3 · 22/12/2024 02:22

Only 3 of us here - food for the week came to about £150.

Full turkey dinner with all the trimmings (including more pigs in blankets than any household needs but DH insists on hundreds 😂 and a turkey bigger than we’d usually get as it was the best dated and looked the best so will do us days worth of leftovers!), a couple of other lighter meals, some “party food” for a small buffet tea on the 23rd which DS asked for.
By the time I had my More Card savings and took off all my points it cost me £27 😊 so I was pretty delighted with that!

Notouchingmybhuna · 22/12/2024 02:26

I normally average £100 a week for food for 3 adults with students home alternate weekends. This week I’ve spent an extra £135 including booze. We have one guest.

DingDongVerilyOnHigh · 22/12/2024 02:42

£3000.

£100 on caviar

£75 on wild salmon

£75 on eel

£150 on cheese

£1000 on on wine

£200 on chocolate

£100 on bird

£400 on sundries

£200 on a ham

£60 on native oysters

£150 on seafood

The rest on fun!

Cantthinkofonenow · 22/12/2024 03:10

Haven’t been food shopping yet but it will be under £100

It's only a case!

12 bottles.

Mali133 · 22/12/2024 04:27

Not a single penny. We are spending the day with in laws. We won't be drinking alcohol as driving. We never buy all the Christmas treats like chocolates and snacks etc unless we are hosting as I will eat the lot. So we just stick to our usual food shop over Christmas. Next year will be different though as it will be our turn to host.

Londonrach1 · 22/12/2024 04:27

Alot less than normal food shop...veg is so cheap. I have bought more veg than needed and storing it but for 15p (tesco) and 8p (lidl) it's worth it. The weeks after Christmas I won't spend as much as normal because of that. Not bought any extras eg chocolate, wine etc. don't really like turkey so just going with a chicken. Bread sauce the only extra thing bought.

Tarnishedbutton · 22/12/2024 09:19

£16 so far - big pack of coke and a ceramic box of biscuits from m and s.
Both of us are on mounjaro so not intending or interested in going crazy and undoing our works.
Will buy a nice steak for Christmas day as want to spend time with my daughter rather than us being in and out of the kitchen.
So probably spend another £50 or so and then back to normal meals.
New year's eve perhaps a takeaway so £30.

BiddyPop · 22/12/2024 09:30

I did 2 separate supermarket trips (as I have to walk home with it all). Family decided corn fed chicken rather than turkey. I needed to stock up on a few things, and also needed a lot of veg. And it includes alcohol. Overall, just under €320, for Christmas dinner, but also for most of this week with DH and DD (seriously into sport so has hollow legs and needs a LOT of protein!).

worriedgal · 22/12/2024 09:37

Currently £650

6 people x5 days and a family party for 20
