Was just reading that they have relocated to the Cotswolds from California and have no plans to return to the United States. Good for them, and admire them getting the hell out of Trump’s America.

But AIBU to wonder how they can do this, legally? I see that Portia de Rossi is Australian, does she have some sort of UK nationality by descent? Or is there a way you can just buy your way in if you are rich (eg promising to set up a UK business like a production company or something?)

I wasn’t suggesting the spouse income limit was an issue for them (it only applies to spouses of UK nationals, which neither of them is and, as you say, the amount is insignificant.) I was using it as an example of immigration rules tightening because someone doubted that they were.

The rumour mill in US thinks they might have left to avoid any association with a certain rapper who is in trouble . Also Trump winning. Ellen has disappointed me so much that I won't be surprised if its true. And There is an investor visa for the filthy rich,I know as one of my school mates came to the UK and promptly contacted me to let me know that thats how they got in and they were planning a start-up.

I think you can stay 6 months without a visa. So they do 6 months here, 3 months in Aus, back in US as much as they want to be. And obvious no recourse to public funds like NHS which as two very rich women they don't need anyway.
