Leftover wine? Hmmmm..nope no idea what that is.

DoubleBluff · 01/05/2008 10:53

Leftover wine.
An oxymoron obv!

paddycat · 01/05/2008 10:54

loved it - a bit like those diet programmes that suggest you "just have a square" of chocolate rather than the whole bar!

PixelHerder · 01/05/2008 10:54

Leftover wine??

Shitemum · 01/05/2008 10:55

Cooking wine? We don't have bottles of cooking wine as such - I find it a damned fine excuse to open a bottle.

DoubleBluff · 01/05/2008 10:59

'cooking wine' - is that what you drink when you are cooking?

ViolentFemme · 01/05/2008 10:59

I had a laugh to myself too when I saw the tip of the day. What is this thing called leftover wine? Does it exist?

stealthsquiggle · 01/05/2008 11:02

I too PMSL at the concept of 'leftover' wine.

If it means dregs in glasses, fine, but that goes into the vinegar jar in our house.

CaptainKarvol · 01/05/2008 11:04

well it's not my tip, but I do freeze leftover wine (it can happen, you know). It doesn't freeze very well though - the inside of my top freezer drawer is very pink now from 'wine slush'

I thought it was a good tip, but then I do wometimes have left over wine. I can't get through a bottle on my own.

WigWamBam · 01/05/2008 11:11

I laughed when I saw the tip of the day ... but only because I have been laughed at on here for doing exactly the same thing. So I knew there would be a thread today taking the piss out of the tip

BUT ... I don't drink. And dh has had to cut down on the amount he drinks because he has high blood pressure and gout. So if he does open a bottle of red, there is a chance that some will be left over - and I either use it in cooking or freeze it to use later.

It would only be thrown away otherwise - and it's better used than wasted, surely?

SoupKitchen · 01/05/2008 11:15

Not a tip I would follow as never enough wine - She did win the competition though

scottishmummy · 01/05/2008 11:22

leftover wine?nah pop it into a doidy cup for wee one to sup with greggs sausage roll

morningpaper · 01/05/2008 11:24

whenever I cooked with wine I used absolutely LOADS

woudl an ice-cube sized bit DO much?

shinyshoes · 01/05/2008 11:34

I did it when I was pregnant, freezing wine that is, otherwise there is no such thing as 'leftover' wine in my house .
I drunk some when I'd had the baby as there was quite an accumulation, it was nasty.

spicemonster · 01/05/2008 11:37

You drank wine that you'd frozen shineyshoes? I think you're supposed to cook with it aren't you, not drink it! (although if you're desperate ... )

chefswife · 01/05/2008 11:39

Did anyone see my duck stew on another thread that uses a bottle of wine, (minus a glass for yourself as you slave over this dish that takes 6min to prepare). Now that?s cooking with wine.

Don?t think I would use up the dreads from peoples glasses though? ekk

no it is mad

you deliberately cook with wine in order to open a bottle

chefswife · 01/05/2008 11:48

Or just deliberately cook to open wine. It helps me organize? ah, whom I?m kidding. I rarely ?cook?; eat lots of pasta. DH cooks when he?s home. Tonight though I have a sea bass in the fridge and in-depth instructions from DH what to do with it. He?s so good.
