As for cooking wine, well, if it is chilled to the point of forming ice crystals it's actually fairly drinkable or in an emergency a dash of lemonade or tonic sorts out most problems. So what if you accidently put a wine ice-cube in your gin and tonic? That would spoil both the gin and the wine.
Or your children popped them in their juice on a hot day? Safer to just finish the bottle.
