Just wanting some inspo really. Any constructive criticism would be appreciated.

I will be doing:

appetisers (husband does these)
brie and cranberry bites
smoked salmon and fake caviar blinis
pear and melon or a chicken caeser salad skewer

main
Chicken ballotine (basically a roulade with stuffing)
brussel sprouts with bacon bits
honey roasted rainbow carrots
roast potaoes
roast parsnips
cabbage
pigs in blanket
gravy

pudding
homemade Yule log
Christmas pudding (bought)
Panne cotta (teen son will make)

posh coffee and homemade minced pies in the evening

I would do a cheeseboard but I’d rather serve it on Boxing Day with leftovers as in my experience my lot don’t eat it.

Teen daughter will probably make cookies and some sort of gingerbread

Thats plenty, right?

Sounds lovely. Will you have cream /ice cream / white sauce for the puddings as well?

pestoblush · 14/12/2024 16:15

Amazing 🤩 it all looks fantastic to me !!

ShadesmarBead · 14/12/2024 16:16

Sounds perfect.

I’d be secretly sad face at no bread sauce as it’s my favourite bit of Christmas dinner.

Mikki77 · 14/12/2024 16:17

Gosh that's an amazing menu.
Merry Christmas🎄

Yes, there will be cream and brandy sauce for the Xmas pud :)

Sounds delicious!

No Yorkshire puddings? Or is that a regional thing?

PumpkinPie2016 · 14/12/2024 16:30

I think that sounds like a lovely menu!

Plenty of food there and nice options for the starters and desserts.

Agree with having the cheese on boxing day.

Enjoy!!

Middlemarch123 · 14/12/2024 16:30

Add some homemade Yorkies and it will be perfect 👌

Hour · 14/12/2024 16:32

We don’t tend to do Yorkshire pudding. Do like them though.

Sounds lovely but I would be sad at the lack of a yorkie on my Christmas dinner! Other than that sounds perfect though.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/12/2024 16:34

Cauliflower cheese
red cabbage (instead of cabbage)
Cranberry sauce
bread sauce

i personally would have another flavour stuffing, cooked separately, just in case the stuffing in the bird is a bit soft. We like a bit of crunch here.

All sounds lovely though. What time should I be there?

Jostuki · 14/12/2024 16:35

I am a vegetarian and would like some garlic added to the cabbage.

Breadcat24 · 14/12/2024 16:36

I like the way different members of the family are doing stuff
Can you add a bit of flair as the ballotine will not have the wow factor and you have a lot of brown on that plate .
So chestnuts in your sprouts, lemon zest in carrots
Red cabbage with cranberries and star anise to give a bit of colour to offset the beige?

Maybe show son how to make Nigellas easy salted caramel ice cream- whip carnation caramel with ice cream and pinch sea salt and freeze

2025istheyear · 14/12/2024 16:37

My teenagers would only eat meat unadulterated. DH and I would happily eat a ballottine.

Apart from that fresh prawns with the starter too. Avocado also.

If it is just for your family does it matter? My suggestions are only if you are catering for other people.

DragonGypsyDoris · 14/12/2024 16:38

Doesn't bother me. Sounds far too complicated though.

Italiangreyhound · 14/12/2024 16:38

Sounds great.

freshfrule · 14/12/2024 16:40

Sounds lovely. Especially like that you didn't go with the traditional red cabbage (that tastes like nans perfume). And that the family are all pitching in.

2025willbemytime · 14/12/2024 16:40

Posh coffee sounds daft and there's no mash.

Mash is a must for my DH only! We have it ready in the freezer. Funny we all have different traditions.

JustMyView13 · 14/12/2024 16:41

You can’t skip a Yorkshire pud surely!?

Giveitashove · 14/12/2024 16:43

Yorkies are the only thing missing, though either that menu I wouldn't grumble! Sounds fab OP, your guests will have a great day

Sprig1 · 14/12/2024 16:43

Sounds lovely. You definitely don't need the cheese. Can I come?

ghostyslovesheets · 14/12/2024 16:45

How many of you?

id want bread sauce and mash

Radamanth · 14/12/2024 16:46

I am shooketh by the number of people who have Yorkshire pudding with their Christmas dinner.

Yorkshire puddings with beef only.

(And I speak as a Yorkshire woman, so am obviously an expert on such things).
