I was just browsing M&S for workwear inspiration when I saw these model poses...what happened to just standing or sitting so that people could see what the clothes look like? 🤣

Lunges??! Yoga? Can't quite reach my foot??

I've just had to go & explore Zara 😬 This was a personal fav!
I'm pretty sure this was a classic male model pose from the 70s!

Ha ha! Yes in bri-nylon Y-fronts with contrasting trim think cafe au lait with chocolate brown or orange with navy blue!

Thank you so much for cheering me right up this evening. I haven’t laughed so much in ages!

I got the trousers in your pic op and confirm they look shite IRL. Massive and not flattering so that could explain the model’s stance.

It’s not to just attract attention, it’s to hide bad construction (or lack thereof) in the first place.

Since the revamp of the H&M online shop, they've started photographing models in dark clothes in front of a wall that looks like made of plastic bag. Really difficult to properly see the clothes.
Example:

In some cases none of the several photos of the garment is with a different background.. This background was used many times in the current campaign.

Damn it I can't find it online but last year I was trying to shop for baggy jeans from Zara. Long story short they had every pose you can imagine, but none of them involved actually wearing the fucking thing so I never knew how it looked. On the flip side, they had attempted to drape their legs with a denim jacket so maybe there was some genuine confusion about what went where?! 😂😭

NewFriend · 09/12/2024 22:07

I thought the squatting ones were so they can show off their legs and tights in a small picture.

Compash · 09/12/2024 22:16

I think it's because the clothes are so square and shapeless lately, they have to squirm to impose some shape on them... I just returned two pairs of leopard print trousers to M&S this week because the unflattering baggy crotch had totally been disguised by the model's willowy pose... this is why it's so annoying they never have stock in the shops any more.

ThePoshUns · 09/12/2024 22:31

Omg the model squatting on the hob. WTAF?

rewilded · 09/12/2024 22:33

What do we think of VB's new ad that is everywhere on Mumsnet? Grin

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 09/12/2024 22:52

And the models all look so bloody miserable. Mind you, so would I if I was told to stand there with pigeon-toes and wearing short socks and fugly shoes. I thought they were supposed to show the clothes at their best, not like they’ve just staggered out of bed after a hard night and chucked on whatever came to hand.

Are male models asked to do this?

It's so ridiculous, and completely prevents you seeing what the clothes might look like if you wore them like a normal person.

On Zara, they're all playing the very serious game of pocket billiards.

Why can't they just smile. If I was young, slim and gorgeous and flouncing around in clothes for a living I'd be grinning my head off.
