To find this top slightly odd ...

My mother has bought DD2 a top with Miffy and her friend on the front. Nothing wrong with that - I love Miffy.

But in the picture, the two bunnies are lifting their skirts up to show their knickers.

I know little kids do that (in fact DD2 is always flashing people so it's quite appropriate really . But it's also something I don't go out of my way to encourage, and it seems an ever-so-slightly-weird thing to put on a child's T-shirt.

Or am I being ridiculous??!?!?!

(DD2 is 3).

That doesn't sound like the Miffy I know!

southeastastra · 30/04/2008 13:04

miffy would have never done that in the olden days, who has corrupted miffy

Iamthedoctor · 30/04/2008 13:05

I heard that Miffy has been spending time with Barbie. Maybe that has something to do with it..

VinegarTits · 30/04/2008 13:07

pmsl. miffy showing her miffy.

margoandjerry · 30/04/2008 13:11

I would refuse to let her wear it tbh.

onebatmother · 30/04/2008 13:13

NO! that's vile. and creepy. An adult had to think about that for some time, and draw it. Erk.

Hecate · 30/04/2008 13:22

No, I don't like it either.

hippipotami · 30/04/2008 13:23

Is it a genuine Miffy top?

The reason I ask is that Dick Bruna, the creator of Miffy will be 80 years old this year. So he is either going a bit gaga in his old age, hence knicker flashing Miffy, or it is copy, ie someone taking the mick out of Miffy?

I feel fiercely defensive of Miffy (or Nijntje) as her real name is, for my mum and I both grew up with her. (being Dutch it is kind of hard to avoid her )

LyraSilvertongue · 30/04/2008 13:25

Not sure I'd be happy about this either. Can you link to a pic?

Iamthedoctor · 30/04/2008 13:25

I'm sure Mother didn't realise that Miffys friends were flashing their knickers?

ditavonteesed · 30/04/2008 13:34

Maybe they are doing the can can

jojosmaman · 30/04/2008 13:37

Odd, Miffy shouldnt be showing her knickers!

DP bought a DSquared t-shirt recently, but being a bloke, he didnt pay much attention to the picture on the front and so he didnt notice that the "Love is.." characters on the front dressed as cowboys also had their privates showing! I think it was a homage to Brokeback Mountain.. needless to say after I pointed it out it was stuck on ebay to the highest bidder!

As an aside, my mum said when she was little, at a certain festival time like Lent or something they used to knock on peoples doors for money for the church and then the people in the house would say "show us your knickers" and they used to show them because they would be wearing their special frilly backed knickers for the occasion. That sounds even more wrong now I have written it down..!!

2point4kids · 30/04/2008 13:41

very odd! have you got a picture?

Smithagain · 30/04/2008 13:43

So relieved I'm not being totally mad. Will go and take a pic ... back soon!

Is it not the one where Miffy is roller skating, and leaning forward but because you can't tell which way 'on' her head is, it could be construed as leaning back and flashing at her friend?

DW commented on it, so please don't accuse me of looking for cartoon bunnysmut.

Smithagain · 30/04/2008 14:01

Nope - not the roller skating one.

Picture in profile now.

LOL at cartoon bunnysmut!

Bad bunny, bad

S1ur · 30/04/2008 14:07

That really reminds me of this

Now that could make an interesting tshirt, though probably not for a toddler

girlfrommars · 30/04/2008 14:08

What next?

Shoplifting from art supply stores?

Smithagain · 30/04/2008 14:09

Feeling much better now - my instincts are not totally off the wall this time!

Am willing to bet that Granny didn't notice and would be mortified if she knew. She's significantly more likely that I am to tell the DDs off for lifting their skirts up LOL!

The label etc certainly look like genuine Miffy, but they bought it in Portugal - no idea how sound the shop they got it from was.

They bought DD1 a Dora top, which she's worn loads already. Am now going to go and inspect it for subtle innuendo ........

Has your Mum had a GOOD look at it? Bit of a strange thing to buy.

Smithagain · 30/04/2008 14:10

LOL girlfrommars - she's definitely trying to hide them, if you ask me!

Well. It is a bit of an odd design for a T shirt.

But young children do do that kind of thing, and not in a sexualaised way. It's certainly less worrying (IMO) than 'So many boys, so little time' or 'Granny Magnet' or whatever.

I'd quietly 'lose' it down the back of the drawers.
