To think it's creepy to send chocolate anonymously through the post?

And it shouldn't be encouraged.

I’d assume they were poisoned…

I guess it depends on how many people you’ve pissed off.

For every person sniffing them for poison there’s someone else tearing up at the lovely gesture.

PlumpPuddingLass · 08/12/2024 18:20

We had a thread on this and it was around xmas too..is this because of dairy milk adverts to send an anon bar?
And yes i agree..its even creepier during valentines or randomly in the year not linked to the recipients bday or xmas. Id never eat anonymously given food.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 08/12/2024 18:21

Directly from a company?

ssd · 08/12/2024 18:21

I dont get it, what's it all about?

LittleRedRidingHoody · 08/12/2024 18:21

Not going to lie, if someone wants to send me anonymous chocolate, I'd be thrilled.

On the other hand, someone sent this to my work for me anonymously as a joke years ago, I couldn't look the admin/secretaries in the eyes for months. Still not sure who did it - did not eat the haribo. www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1121955735/

MuggleMe · 08/12/2024 18:22

Yes as soon as I saw the Cadbury ad I thought the same. If you've ever had someone give you unwanted attention you'd be so freaked out.

NapTrappedAgain · 08/12/2024 18:23

Are you talking about the Cadbury’s Secret Santa by any chance? Because I received one this year and it was a really lovely surprise (and an intriguing mystery for all of a few minutes before I remembered DM asking for my postcode the week before!)

SaagAloopa · 08/12/2024 18:23

Yeah it's Cadbury suggesting you get them to send chocolate anonymously. I guess they have your details? But still. Not on to freak people out.

I’ve been binge reading Golden Age mystery fiction - Agatha Christie etc - & its pretty much compulsory that if a box of chocolates arrives in the post, at least some of them will be poisoned.

Berlinlover · 08/12/2024 18:24

I agree with you, I thought it was an odd thing to do when I saw the ad.

NapTrappedAgain · 08/12/2024 18:27

It’s a shiny Cadbury branded package with a Cadburys bar inside it did not cross my mind that it could be sinister in any way shape or form. I just thought it was lovely that someone had seen the advert and thought of me.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 08/12/2024 18:29

It's supposed to be a lovely surprise for a friend or family.
Sure, some people could abuse it. But they could send anonymous chocolate anyway

You can choose not to be "freaked out", unless you're going to drip feed about having a stalker or something.

People have stalkers and ex's they don't want anything to do with and creepy weirdo neighbours/ work colleagues

I think it’s weird and wonder what Cadbury get out of it?
Is it a con where you have to pay postage and packing which is equal to or more expensive than the bar? Or completely free?
Either way, I don’t think I’d eat it.

ItsBehindYouSequinsAndStilettos · 08/12/2024 18:42

The Secret Santa sounds sweet. I like Chocolate so I'm all in.
It's a pain in the arse if you cannot get to a scan code though.
Mine's sodding miles away.

StMarie4me · 08/12/2024 18:46

Yes! And if I was the recipient I wouldn't eat it if it came anonymously either!

Could not agree more.

MeatRaffleRita · 08/12/2024 18:49

I'd be scared it was laced with novichoc and wouldn't eat it.

and what a damn waste that would be!

lemonlavendar · 08/12/2024 19:16

My thoughts are that if you have a dog and chocolate came through letter box it'd rip it open and eat it.
Chocolate is poisonous to dogs and can kill them.
The idea is lovely, the reality is concerning

VarneytheVamp · 08/12/2024 19:20

I watch too many crime shows so my first thought is someone could see this Cadbury campaign, go out and buy a bar, lace it with something nasty and post it to someone they hate 😂 a more likely scenario is that my dog would scoff it and I’d end up with a huge vet bill.

Cheesytoastie · 08/12/2024 20:38

Well it's coming straight from a Cadbury factory in the post, the sender never sees it, so it can't be poisoned. I don't know why anyone would be freaked out or not it.

Yes but you could send a poisoned bar you bought yourself couldn’t you? Not that I think it’s particularly likely I suppose.

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/12/2024 20:43

I’m not sure why this is seen as such a big deal, when online shopping means that anyone can send anything anonymously and without a gift label anyway (and indeed, for my friend Ali this seems to be her accidental default mode when it comes to sending birthday presents.)

Dramatic · 08/12/2024 20:48

Do people really have to see bad in everything? I got one last year, still no idea who it was from but it cheered my day right up.
