Out of date Baileys

Just found a bottle of Baileys best before October 2024 - is it safe to drink?!

It’s booze, it will be perfectly fine. I used to make my own version with fresh cream and eggs although it didn’t last long in the fridge as it got drunk rather quickly. 🥳😂

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 08/12/2024 14:50

It's barely out of date. I'll likely be fine, there will be huge margins on the dates.

MermaidEyes · 08/12/2024 14:56

I've just checked my unopened bottle and the date is June 2024. Now thinking I should probably open it and drink it....

Oxo01 · 08/12/2024 15:08

So glad I saw this post I've just got 3 bottles out of the garage, 2 are best before Nov 2024 so was unsure if to use or order more.

Notyouthful · 08/12/2024 15:13

I have drank Baileys which was 5 years out of date. It was fine. It helps from Baileys being in a dark bottle and in a cupboard.

It's dairy based I wouldn't chance it

It's best before not use by. It will be fine.

mum2jakie · 08/12/2024 15:22

I've got a bottle BBE October 2024 too. It's unopened and I'm saving it for Christmas Day. Need plenty of ice in the freezer

Doggymummar · 08/12/2024 15:24

It lasts two years once opened apparently so I'm sure it will be fine. Would last me a weekend to be honest. Don't buy it anymore it's too moreish

Iheartmysmart · 08/12/2024 15:25

I’ve got a bottle in the fridge which I probably opened last Christmas. Had some Friday night, tasted fine and I’m still here.

PerditaLaChien · 08/12/2024 15:26

That much sugar & alcohol is a preservative. It'll be fine.

Andoutcomethewolves · 08/12/2024 15:30

It'll be fine. As PP have said it's best before and only a few months out of date.

I've said this before on here but I used to work in a massive supermarket manufacturing and distribution centre in the Netherlands, and for things like cans, tins, sealed bottles and jars etc the BB date was basically arbitrary. We'd usually add it as two years from that day's date regardless of the product (with some exceptions) - so it was essentially meaningless. It was only added because it was needed legally and could just as easily have been for 5/10/however many years' time.

Okayornot · 08/12/2024 15:41

Why wouldn't you just taste it?

Hoping to save it for Christmas Eve/day so I didn’t want to open it yet.

Last year my mum poured me a Baileys. Thought it tasted a little.... odd.

In that case I'd probably get another bottle just in-case. Imagine how disappointed you'd be if you open it on Christmas day and it has gone bad!!

They're on special in one of the supermarkets I'm sure? And get one well dated so if the bottle you already have is okay, you can keep the other bottle for next Christmas 😊

Both!

HolidayHattie · 08/12/2024 16:13

OP if it's been stored somewhere relatively cool it will be absolutely fine. Even if it hasn't, it will probably still be fine because it's unopened. Just don't keep it another year once you've opened it.

gingercat02 · 08/12/2024 16:18

I just finished last Christmas's bottle on Friday night. Never occurred to me to look at a BB date! I'm still alive.

FinallyHere · 08/12/2024 16:23

Give it the sniff test. If it smells ok, it will be ok. If it smells off, it isn't.

NerrSnerr · 08/12/2024 16:28

I remember a few years ago we had Baileys at my dad's house that was very old, at least 5 years but probably more. It was fine.

anon2022anon · 08/12/2024 16:29

I've been drinking the one we opened last year, had a BBE date of October 23. It's going down fine.

FrenchandSaunders · 08/12/2024 16:30

I wouldn’t risk it you might get chlamydia

BloodyHellBob · 08/12/2024 16:33

I've Bailey's in the fridge from last year and it's grand!

BadgersGalore · 08/12/2024 16:45

Urgh I was served an out of date Baileys in a posh pub once - it was curdled and thick and tasted revolting 🤢
