In this weather? 1. I am AMAZED the deliveroo driver was even working and 2. They deserve a tip for going out in this on their moped just because you couldn't be bothered to cook.

Well, I was replying to the person I quoted anyway, but I still don't have an issue with your husband not tipping. He wanted to use a service they offer, at the price they offer it. Why should he pay twice for the delivery???

Fair point. I think the poor weather means they should have got a bonus

Your not supposed to go.out in this weather unless urgent
I would feel guilty calling one out, just because I couldn't be bothered to cook. It's dangerous out there.

A few very miserable people on this thread….

MintShaker · 07/12/2024 18:11

I'm not sure if I'd describe it as cruel not to tip him/her, but it's definitely amoral not to tip.

Wellingtonspie · 07/12/2024 18:17

If I’m ordering it already includes a delivery fee. Job done

I cooked though a lovely roast.

Also in the uk eveyone who’s employed via payee gets minimum wage. We don’t tip all minimum wage jobs and I’m not about to start picking and choosing. If you choose to work self Employed that’s on you.

I assume the delivery charge and service charge cover it. We don't have cash in the house, so couldn't tip.

Have you ever used a delivery app? They all have tipping enabled through your account, not through cash.

It's awful that we have become a nation of people who want everything delivered today. Only housebound people need stuff delivered.
People who can go to the supermarket should do it's lazy expecting it delivered.

It’s lazy to expect all your food to be delivered to the supermarket. You should grow it yourself or go to the individual farms.
Don’t be ridiculous. It’s not ‘lazy’. It’s using a service that’s offered.

Daisy12Maisie · 07/12/2024 18:43

If I was ordering food to be delivered it would be because I was ill and couldn't leave the house so it would already be an unplanned expense that I couldn't really afford so no I wouldn't tip.
Yes I'm sure it is nice to tip people that don't have much money but I have minus in the bank so it wouldn't be very sensible to tip.

GreyCarpet · 07/12/2024 18:46

Cruel? 🙄

It depends where you live. It’s fine to go out where I am.

I don’t see why a takeaway makes you lazy. There are restaurants near me that make really good food, better than I could make. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not having a takeaway tonight, as it happens, but if I did, it’s because I’d want nice food.

Are you joking?! Some of us can barely afford what we ordered but are disabled so are having to order groceries from Deliveroo as it’s not safe to go out! Have you seen the service charges Deliveroo charge on top of the inflated prices of each item?!
What costs £12 in McDonalds, costs £29.80 via Deliveroo!

You could look at the weather forecast and see that it’s going to be awful and order earlier. this storm has been forecast for a week.

GabriellaMontez · 07/12/2024 19:42

"Cruel"? Don't be silly.

It isn’t raging everywhere though. It’s passed through where I am now and, while the weather isn’t great, it’s perfectly safe to be out.

And then the Deliveroo driver has no deliveries today? How does that help them?

They don't have to work - they can choose not to go out if they don't want to. If they're working this evening it's because they want/need to earn money, so people not ordering is worse for them, not better.

Then their employer should have been paying them that.
