Anyone else absolutely SICK of this winter already

The germs… oh the germs!!

my household has had hand foot and mouth, flu (which is led to a chest infection and double ear infection which im struggling to shift) and the baby has bronchiolitis twice, including once where he was hospitalised. and it’s only early December.

how does everyone else survive the winter months especially with an older child bringing bugs home from nursery and making the baby poorly? We’re so careful with hygiene to reduce spread but it sometimes isn’t enough. And I’ve tried to focus on eating plenty of veg and protein which hasn’t been easy when I’ve felt so unwell myself with kids to look after who’ve also been poorly!

appreciate there’s 1000s households in the same boat right now.

feeling especially pants post partum with weight gain, and it’s so hard to exercise at the moment with one illness after another.

sorry just having a pity party here… sick of feeling sick!!

...each day that passes is one closer to summer!

Fairyliz · 07/12/2024 17:19

Blimey that sounds awful op; sorry you have all been so poorly.
Im sick and tired of winter already and I’ve not been ill. Roll on spring.

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 07/12/2024 17:22

I'm with you. Really sorry to hear your baby had to go into hospital that must have been really stressful.
I try to take a restful approach to winter these days, where I aim to make myself feel good, with good food, little treats, loads of vit D and as much time outside as I can get, but really I don't start to feel better until the sun is coming back several weeks after the solstice.
Ideally, I'd head off to California just before Halloween and come home in march.

AndThereSheGoes · 07/12/2024 17:23

There does seems to be a lot of sickness around. No one just gets a sniffly cold anymore either.

I'm quite grateful it's mild though. Hate the extra 10 minutes in the morning defrosting and de misting the car and driving on icy roads. No doubt it will come at some point but we're almost 2 months of winter down. Two more to go and we can look forward to Spring and light.

NeedABabelFish · 07/12/2024 17:26

Oh that sounds awful!

I detest winter. It's cold, dark and wet and just makes me miserable. And it seems to last longer every year.

wastingtimeonhere · 07/12/2024 17:29

This is the first year I've had cold after cold. Can't work out if it's lots of germs, my age or my immune system. I take vitamins.

my tinfoil hat colleague says jabs, spraying, and 5g!
😆🤔🙈

Agree.

Winter is vile

Doggymummar · 07/12/2024 17:32

Gosh that's grim. Apart from today it's been very mild, I don't feel like Winter is here just yet, no frost no snow little rain.

RubyRedBow · 07/12/2024 17:33

We haven’t had any illnesses so far. I kept telling myself once Christmas is out the way spring will be around the corner. The months pass so quickly.

MobilityCat · 07/12/2024 17:34

You would long for winter if you lived in countries where the summer temperatures can easily reach the mid 40s C.

PassingStranger · 07/12/2024 17:36

Where's all the Summer moaners today?

OneTC · 07/12/2024 17:38

Yes speed on the 3 days of summer 🙏

Edizzler25 · 07/12/2024 17:44

Thanks everyone. Some lovely reassuring replies that it’s not just me who thinks winter is absolutely pants!!

Hope spring rolls around quickly for us… baby will be 6 months in March and I can’t wait as he will be bigger and stronger by then plus less germs going around hopefully by then.

struggling to get excited for Xmas to be honest

I'm the same, I've been injured or ill since September (injured was falling on ice). I know it's been fairly consecutive as there have been so many events or trips we've cancelled, and also not had the energy to put any Christmas decorations up. Now debating whether I'll be well enough to go for the works Christmas do which is the last thing I've got planned, so if I cancel that it'll be a full house. Really not bothered about Christmas this year any more!

Hope you and your little one get better soon

Funny that - none of the worlds population is running to each respective opposing hemisphere when summer arrives.

More climate change claptrap - the same climate thats been changing since the big bang....

MugOfTee · 07/12/2024 18:07

Sorry to hear your little one has been poorly. I was in the same boat last year.

We’ve all been poorly the last 2 weeks, toddler dc has just got over a bout of tonsillitis and I’m now battling a horrible flu like virus. Shivering one minute then sweating the next.
Not had it like this before.

I used to quite like winter - now I dislike it immensely. The cold, the rain, the dark gloomy evenings, the damp, rotten leaves on the ground, everyone getting ill.

I always forward to Christmas. After that it’s ‘only’ 2 months till we start seeing signs of spring! 🌷

Edizzler25 · 07/12/2024 18:10

Sorry to hear that. I’ve found it’s sometimes easier to just accept for a bit that we can’t do our normal activities so cancelling doesn’t feel as bad… or committing to less removes some pressure.

Hope things pick up for you soon xx

sorry was supposed to reply to a post further up!!

Sorry to hear this. Totally feel the same. Don’t get all the social media hype about the autumn and winter when it brings a lot of misery for people with young kids, vulnerable people, older people etc and realistically Xmas is just one day.

Hope you feel better soon. We had flu two weeks ago as well, all had a temp at the start and felt horrendous xx

I agree. Perhaps this poster is lucky enough not to have anyone vulnerable to worry about in the cold months.

Or heating bills
Or
Seasonal affective disorder

Bathroombedroomlounge · 07/12/2024 18:29

Mine are young adults/teens now but I had 3 under 4 on my own. It gets better, just hang in there. It seems to be on and off till end of reception year then slowly improves.
Dc3 had a sports injury last week and had a day off school and was not happy as had not had any time off in 3 years.
Give them all some vitamins to cover incase they're not eating great, lots of fluids, hand washing, avoid too many indoor meetups (especially soft plays) and hope for the best.

Julia34 · 07/12/2024 18:31

Or maybe they just hate it hot and sticky, with houses designed to hold heat in and no air conditioning, or deteste wearing shorts and T-shirt or clothes that generally require their body to be on show to keep cool or the light coming all day between 4am and 10pm. I love autumn and winter, I’ve got little germ factories in the house and generally always end up with a chest infection/pleurisy (got one now) if I get a bad cold/flu but doesn’t mean I prefer British summer more than the colder months!
