Women spending Christmas alone, what nice things do you have planned?

I’m spending Christmas by myself this year, and while I know it can feel daunting for some, I’m actually looking forward to it. I think it’s a great opportunity to treat yourself and enjoy some peace.

For anyone else spending the day solo, what are you planning? Whether it’s cooking your favourite meal, a cozy movie marathon, or something completely different, I’d love to hear (and steal some of) your ideas!

Thanks so much! I hope your birds appreciate you.

Although my next question has to be, 'What is loungewear?' I have never knowingly bought/worn any. Or should I post this on Style and Beauty?

You probably should. I can't give you a precise definition.

I think in the '70s some people used kaftans; now it seems to be pyjamas and sort of tracksuits...I'm sure that I recall seeing velour tracksuits at one point.

If you could see me, you would immediately know that I'm no fashion expert!

Kit that people lounge around in😉
Personally, I think if you live alone and stop getting dressed, it's the beginning of the end.
No PJ'S (New/Christmas or otherwise) after breakfast in my gaff.

CrystalSingerFan · 10/12/2024 01:33

Are PJ's a classier MN version of Onesies?

(Although I've just discovered that John Lewis sell them, which surely makes them acceptable... www.johnlewis.com/browse/women/womens-nightwear/onesies/_/N-fm0Z1z0rnoq)

Thanks! I'm with you. I'll also pass the advice on to my older friends... 😋

A long walk with a friend on Christmas Day. Gavin & Stacey recap, then the long awaited Christmas special!!! A tower of Ferrero Rocher. 🩷🌟

Daughter & partner going to his parents in Wales for Christmas; we live on the south coast, and my elderly mother in a different city. None of us drives and as it's a Bank Holiday with no trains running that day I'll be by myself on Dec 25th for the first time in a good few years. Daughter is 5 months pregnant and this is the last Christmas she & her partner will have as a couple before my grandson arrives.
Daughter, her partner and I are going to my Mum's for an early Christmas this cpmong Saturday (when the trains will be running, weather permitting) and daughter & partner are taking me out to our local Toby Carvery on Saturday 21st though.
I've got together a bunch of DVD's I want to watch over the Crhistmas period, have made up a Christmas grocery list of nice things I don't normally get and whist I could order onine I'm prepared if necessary to get out my trusty shopping troey and go to Lidl/Asda in person toget everything. I have a small dog and live within walking distance of some prime dog-walking areas in town, so will also be taking Pooch out for some nice walkies as well.

I live alone so it's not really going to be much different to a normal day. I'm not going to be doing much. Might go for a hike in the fells if the weather is ok. Other than that I don't know. I will decide on the day, I think.

I'm told that younger people use pyjamas as loungewear if they're staying in all day.

I'll have to get dressed: I'll be going out to to the garden to feed the birds at some point.

I do that in my dressing gown 🙂😞

Oh, I need to keep wrapped up against the cold in this weather. Auld age!

I had to Google Chambord: I've never come across it. I gather that I've been missing a treat?

Many years ago, I was a student just outside Paris for a while and the drink of choice then was Kir Royale. (Came to mind because Wikipedia states that Chambord is the basis for Kir Imperial?)

Also, mix Chambord (raspberry) with Frangelico (hazelnut liquor), some milk / cream (or half and half) and some ice for a cocktail that tastes like a bakewell tart 😍(oh and top it with a sprinkle of chocolate powder)

Ooooooh! Sounds good.

Got a couple of gifts for myself so have some nice things to 'open'
I've got 2 horses & work in retail so not had much chance to ride coming up to Xmas so Xmas day I will go on a long ride & take a flask & mince pie in my saddle bags.
Evening I'll have a nice dinner, some wine, a long bath with something nice, a candle & tv & a jigsaw then read in bed.

I actually lie about it & tell people I'm visiting friends/families as it stops all the 'oh you must come to ours to see some DC' or ' that's so selfish why don't you visit an old people's home/homeless shelter/sick kids ward'

I really enjoy it, am looking forward to it & feel very smug when I hear about horrid MIL, ungrateful DC, drunk DH etc.

People have actually called you selfish? They can get to fuck. Why don't they do this themselves then?

Terrribletwos · 10/12/2024 15:17

I just treat it like any other day. It is just a day in the calendar, life goes on. Rest of the family are the same. It's no big deal. Not sure why it should be.
