to think dh should not put dd (7) in a taxi and send her to school alone because he can't be bothered taking her there himself?

Usually I take dd to school every morning but I'm sick at the moment and insisted on dh driving her there before going to work for a change. School here starts at 8 and he isn't an early riser, usually doesn't leave before 9ish, so on the whole I do it by train which is about 45 minutes. By car it is much faster of course.

So anyway they go off about 20 to 8 and I hear nothing more till I pick her up from school and she says he found a taxi outside in the street, put her in and she was sent off to school alone. He must have taken the car straight to work after placing her in the taxi.

He didn't order the taxi, didn't note the registration number or anything, so if the taxi had not for some reason delivered her safely to school, what then?

So am I being U or is this is ok?

well that sounds like a sensible way of doing it mummypenguin, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to let dc travel by taxi but I do think you need to be cautious about it and not just send them off with anyone. I suppose our problem was we had not planned for this kind of eventuality (ie I had not). Actually I could look into what kind of taxi services are available here.

For some reason I had too many "wheres" in my last post. I was trying to locate a workshop in the map at the time so perhaps that's why? Very strange.

The firm I use is the largest firm in our area. Check out your largest/most well known firm, you'll probably find they offer a similar service. There's another well known firm locally, but having used them with the kids (with me travelling with them) I just wouldn't feel as happy about using that firm for the kids on their own. They're just not as 'polished' and some of their drivers are a bit odd looking. It's just one of those instinct things.

I would be so

Firstly he put her in a car with a complete stranger.

secondly it wasn't an ordered cab, so there was no record of her being picked up by this taxi driver, that he had her in the car.

Thirdly if there was an accident nobody would know WHO she was or who to contact.

Thirdly whos to say he would have taken her to school?? Im sorry its a horrible thought but the school could have thought she was just off sick and you would have thought DH had taken her to school...

Its just a very irresponsible thing to do

Jesus Christ.
I would have gone mental.Utterly mental.

His daughter comes first and should be his priority, he should have phoned to apologise for being late to the meeting and driven her to school himself.

To put her in a car with a stranger is totally unacceptable and negligent behaviour.

I would be utterly furious!

yanbu - what a stupid thing to do.

That is truly dreadful, dangerous and sad.

saying that my 3 year old goes to school on the school bus everyday........

silvercrown · 30/04/2008 16:23

this is the amazing thing though - my hubby is the same - he can deal with multi-million pound claims etc but when it comes to the kids has NO bloody common sense.

I've sent ds2 in a taxi on his own when he was just 8. But I did book the taxi myself and check it was OK with taxi company; and made sure ds2 had his address/phone number on him in case of any problems, and asked taxi driver to watch him getting out of the car.

I've done it a few times - don't have any problems with it tbh.
