My hubby tells me he loves it but I just think it's expensive and never has what I want, except wine 😂 Am I missing something!?

I quite like my little local Co op. I wouldn't do a whole shop there but there are some things that aren't too expensive if you shop carefully.

Quitelikeit · 02/12/2024 22:41

Yabu I absolutely love the Co-op!

it has many great things

TheWayTheLightFalls · 02/12/2024 22:43

the something and chardonnay (?) crisps get me through the door, could give or take the rest.

TY78910 · 02/12/2024 22:47

My Co-Op sells mouldy veg and out of date meat but it's the only shop that's walking distance 😂

Sea salt!

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 02/12/2024 22:48

They do an amazing little macaroni cheese. Nothing compares to it.

I am going to have to go tomorrow

The co-op near us is very small, but has a pretty decent selection of food and wine. I've never bought meat from there but their fresh fruit and veg is fine. Maybe we are just lucky but I doubt it.

There was a co-op round the corner from my parents house when I was growing up. Now that really was a manky shop, and cost more than waitrose!

murasaki · 02/12/2024 22:55

Mine is a small one, but it's just round the corner, the fish cakes are good, the veg is fresh and it has a free cashpoint, which is like spotting a black rhino in the wild in this neck of the woods.

noblegiraffe · 02/12/2024 22:56

The co-op nearby is ludicrously priced, like absolutely batshit.
There was a box of cereal that was £2.50 in Iceland, £3.80 in Sainsbury's and £4.40 in the co-op.

TiredCatLady · 02/12/2024 22:57

YANBU. Insanely expensive (and has been for years) and a really odd combination of products.

NannyR · 02/12/2024 22:57

My local one has fantastic yellow sticker reductions - I rarely buy anything full price!

ProvincialLady24 · 02/12/2024 22:59

It's just local and convenient for the odd thing one might have run out of.

Strange. Corn flakes in my local Coop shop is just £2. Less than half price of Kelloggs. Lots of really low Coop brand and member prices too. A million people have joined the Coop this last year. A leader in Fair trade and animal welfare products.

I wasn't looking at own-brand cornflakes though, but a specific cereal that they were ludicrously over-charging for.

Also, 'member prices' are really unethical.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 02/12/2024 23:14

It's expensive but has more things in stock than the one stop, which has nothing. I like their fancy single origin chocolates and their wood-fired pizzas.

murasaki · 02/12/2024 23:14

Aren't member prices just the same as club card etc?

nadine90 · 02/12/2024 23:14

The smell of rotting veg hits you as you walk through the door in mine. Overpriced for not the best food

jennylamb1 · 02/12/2024 23:14

Some things are extortionate, however the quality is good. Really nice West Country and Red Onion crisps (to die for) and very nice Lime Tree Merlot for instance.
We also use the TooGoodToGo app, most Co-ops are on there, can pick up food on its best before date for 2/3rd off the reduced price. Can freeze most of it and have the rest for a nice dinner.

mamajong · 02/12/2024 23:17

I love it!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/12/2024 23:17

I'm currently on an island where the Co-op is the only supermarket. Seems all right. My Mum is very put out that they're not stocking bouquet garni any more but a kind neighbour brought her back some from Asda on the mainland. Had a very nice iced lemon cake from there the other day and a good coffee and walnut cake on a previous trip.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/12/2024 23:20

Ours has some decent stuff, and the only shop within walking distance - 3km each way but I can get exercise and top up on fresh veg at the same time. So yes, I'd sometimes choose to go there rather than drive elsewhere. Or pick up milk on the way home from somewhere.

TroysMammy · 02/12/2024 23:20

The member meal deal is excellent and the yellow (orange) sticker reductions are really good, a family sized rhubarb pie 80p.

ParrotPirouette · 02/12/2024 23:21

I buy beer and tonic. Turns out they also sell the very best Pastel del Natas 😃

HereForTheAnimals · 02/12/2024 23:22

I love the Co-op. There are always vegan options, both ambient and chilled, and I've never been in one and felt underwhelmed - One Stop and local small Tesco's however 🤬
