Teacher treating children too young

My child is in a year 3 class, the teacher now sings a song to get them to sit on the carpet and has organised a book advent for this week. The children are 7 and 8, I feel they are far too old to be sung to sit on the carpet. Aibu to talk to the headteacher?

You are all very preumptious in assuming that the teacher is female! And I didn't say there was a problem with children sitting on the carpet, moreover how they are asked.

I taught year 3-6 for years and LOVED a tidy up/carpet song adjusted for the age of kids. Sometimes sung, sometimes played. Sometimes we did a little dance too.

Helpimfalling · 01/12/2024 22:10

In a world where kids grow up way too fast and many probably won't be sung to/with.
I love this for them kids!!

YellowJoggers · 01/12/2024 22:11

I use a song to get my Years 9-11 to get back to their seats/rearrange classroom after group work etc 😂

downhere · 01/12/2024 22:12

Also how could a book advent possibly be a bad thing at any age?!

Greyrocked · 01/12/2024 22:13

I can’t really see your perspective at all. It sounds lovely. As an adult I’d like someone to sing to me 😂

Apolloneuro · 01/12/2024 22:14

I hate to break it to you, @Someonehelpmeagain but sometimes, even grown ups sing. There’s this thing called choirs…

Nothing inherently childish about singing. It’s good for the soul.

mitogoshigg · 01/12/2024 22:14

Seems a bit odd so old i admit but if it works what harm does it do? Pick your battles! I had one child who hated having to sit on the floor, being autistic she found lots of things challenging and was pleased when floor time ended in year 2.

Jfc, teachers really can do nothing right can they!?

I know, good grief, pick pick pick

Dearover · 01/12/2024 22:16

I think one post referred to "her class". Quick, report to MNHQ

Wouldn't that be lovely! Imagine if sales assistants sang to you at the counter!

Gloriousgardener11 · 01/12/2024 22:17

Would you be happy for the teacher to speak to your boss about something you were doing at work that she wasn’t happy about?
For goodness sake leave the poor teacher alone!

Basically you’re saying all children should be exactly like your child in how mature they are and what they enjoy?!

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 01/12/2024 22:17

Yep op, you absolutely know the class better than their qualified teacher.

Maybe she/he can tell you how to do your job too.

EmpressOfTheThread · 01/12/2024 22:17

What's your job, OP?

crumblingschools · 01/12/2024 22:18

Is your problem then that the teacher is a man?

Dearover · 01/12/2024 22:18

@Interl0per I imagine that it's a new book for the class each day until the end of term.

Yeah, cos the issue here is people presuming the teacher is female. That’s definitely what to focus on out of all the replies….

🙄

(My answer would be the same if the teacher was male, female, young, old, black, white or in fact Mr Blobby - it’s not for you as a parent to micromanage classroom management.)

University Lecturer

Perhaps the teacher could give you some tips. Ask.

Someonehelpmeagain · 01/12/2024 22:20

crumblingschools · 01/12/2024 22:18

Is your problem then that the teacher is a man?

Absolutely not, more that I expected a certain level of behaviour management when children move up to the next key stage.

crumblingschools · 01/12/2024 22:21

Would you like it if parents went to your boss @Someonehelpmeagain over something trivial in the way you conduct your lectures

chicken2015 · 01/12/2024 22:22
