Are they saving plastic or chocolates?

Celebrations are horrible - get Heroes instead 😄

LittleRedRidingHoody · 01/12/2024 15:32

YANBU. I only buy the nice 'big' actual tin of heroes and then boxes of celebrations to tip in when it has space 😂

Porcelainpig · 01/12/2024 15:41

They are definitely smaller. Not sure how the weights differ across Roses, Heroes, Quality Street and Celebrations. I think it's a bit ill judged to shrinkflate these as supermarkets offer some pretty decent selections of chocolates now that are probably cheaper or cost the same.

Screenthis · 01/12/2024 15:42

Chocolate has become inedible now, I haven't found a brand that has been taken over by an American company that has either not suffered from shrinkflation or a deprivation of flavour or ingredients.

We have a very old Roses tin that we store the Christmas cake in each year before it is marzipaned and iced. It was "normal" sized tin back then. Compared to plastic tub this year it's about twice the size!

WhitbyBee · 01/12/2024 15:55

But they are £3.95 to buy
A tin of quality street was more than that in the late 70s/ 1980s

DeliciousApples · 01/12/2024 15:56

The tubs have gotten progressively less deep year on year, until now they look more like a deep lid than a whole tub! I was well shocked. Didn't buy.

iPreferBooks · 01/12/2024 15:56

YANBU. Sometimes I wonder how small can you go? Surely at some point there will be nothing else left to shrink.

We've been decluttering my gran's house recently as she passed away. But in the garage we found one of those big classic Quality Street tins, and now I'm tempted to see how many modern tubs it takes to fill up the classic tin!

Yes you used to be able to use them as cake tins, no chance these days.

needsomewarmsunshine · 01/12/2024 15:59

Stupid prices for not very nice chocolate, I used to buy mini size chocolate bags various types when the kids were young. They would take two or three and enjoy those rather than four of five of the tub sweets.

dontforgetme · 01/12/2024 16:05

I said the same to my oh last week! But they really are my favourite 'Christmas chocolates' though so I will continue to be stuffing my face with them, minus the bounty's and snickers obv Grin

BeTealUser · 01/12/2024 16:07

The tubs are smaller in size but I don’t think they have reduced the contents at all - although happy to be proven wrong.

Smaller packaging is more efficient for transporting.

KimberleyClark · 01/12/2024 16:08

We never bother with Quality Street/Roses/Celebrations/Miniature Heroes. I’d much rather get a big box of proper chocolates.

Sia8899 · 01/12/2024 16:09

Saw a video from a chocolate brand (might’ve been nestle?) about how weather and fungus has affected the cocoa harvest so the price of the beans has gone way up. I guess lowering the amount of chocolate/chocolates in products means they aren’t ridiculous prices for customers

shockeditellyou · 01/12/2024 16:10

All of the Christmas chocolate tubs look cheap and nasty now.

Manypaws · 01/12/2024 16:10

Perhaps that's why I have managed to scoff a full box Envy

CrispyK · 01/12/2024 16:11

I was sorting some stuff in the garage & came across a celebrations tub from 2014. Not that long ago in the grand scheme of things but the tub was almost twice as deep! You get about 300g less now.

Words · 01/12/2024 16:12

Buy a smaller quantity of decent chocolate instead?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/12/2024 16:15

Quality Street (900g) at Eurotunnel Duty Free Shop in France - 32 euros 😱

Quality Street (600g) at Tesco - £6 (£4.95 with club card)

Finnulafishface · 01/12/2024 16:16

People need to actually stop buying these and not just complain but it’s all too easy when they’re under a fiver to throw them in the trolley!

rosydreams · 01/12/2024 16:16

you can buy bigger tins at farmfoods at the mo

FergussSingsTheBlues · 01/12/2024 16:17

They’re crap and should be renamed commiserations IMO

Manypaws · 01/12/2024 16:17

@FergussSingsTheBlues 🤣🤣

Screenthis · 01/12/2024 16:19

So you can buy tins in the size they used to come in at an inflated price?

rosydreams · 01/12/2024 16:21

i think it was 750 grs for £7 which seems like a reasonable price considering recent inflation
