Are they saving plastic or chocolates?

So thin they could fit through a letterbox. Refuse to buy them this year.

YANBU. Sometimes I wonder how small can you go? Surely at some point there will be nothing else left to shrink.

We've been decluttering my gran's house recently as she passed away. But in the garage we found one of those big classic Quality Street tins, and now I'm tempted to see how many modern tubs it takes to fill up the classic tin!

Do it and let us know. Although maybe go for celebrations instead cause quality street are disgusting now.

We don’t bother anymore. My mom just buys an empty Christmas tin and fills it with things like Freddos, the strawberry cremes, etc.

2KG boxes of heroes on Amazon for £22

Yes you used to be able to use them as cake tins, no chance these days.

Yes, exactly why I still use the battered deep Roses tin.

I do have a plastic tub as well from about 5 years ago which is a decent size too. The tub I have on the side from this year, yet to open, might do for pancakes 😂

Same here when clearing my dm house. Two Quality Street tins. One large and a less deep one. I used the large one to bring the ingredients to school for my cookery class early seventies.

Chocolate has become inedible now, I haven't found a brand that has been taken over by an American company that has either not suffered from shrinkflation or a deprivation of flavour or ingredients.

Mainland European brands are still ok. Aldi and Lidl are a good source of budget versions.

That's true @cardibach

Problem is we all continue to buy them, they are not only hugely reduced in size, but they have altered incredibly as well. Roses for example are all the same square shape now, you may as well be eating the same sweet each time, also quality street are gradually losing their identity in the same way. Hero’s shapes are becoming more uniform and uninteresting, celebrations still retain their foil wrappers and individual shapes for now which is good. But like all of these things, if we keep buying them, they will keep making them and taking the piss with making them smaller and substandard to how they once were, nostalgia keeps us buying them, I’m part of the problem, though I have definitely stopped buying roses, the others I will stop if they get any worse, but I’m only one person, we need to pursued everyone to vote with their buying habits.

I'm intrigued- for those who don't like the chocolates these days what do you buy instead?

Rosscameasdoody · 01/12/2024 20:27

Everything’s getting smaller and more expensive though isn’t it ? Mars bars are smaller, crisp packets are smaller, and I’ve only recently noticed that a few brands of block butter have become more expensive and the weight has been cut from 250g to 200g. New but less than imaginitive ways to rip off the consumer.
