To say Easter is better than Christmas?

alittlelatte · 29/11/2024 19:29

You get the same two extra bank holidays

There's more sunlight

The weather is sometimes warm, and even if it isn't you know spring is on the way

Easter egg chocolate tastes better than regular chocolate

It's cheaper (no presents)

Less pressure generally

Easter is dreadful. You have to see your family but they don't bring you presents.

TheWorminLabyrinth · 30/11/2024 10:56

I don't know anyone that makes a thing of easter. Aside from people who are into the religious stuff.

Floralnomad · 30/11/2024 10:56

Christmas is much better , I love my trees .

Easter is a religious festival and we largely ignore it. Christmas is a cultural celebration in this country and so much better for it.

Agree.

A midwinter celebration railing at the darkest time of the year at the moment when the days are getting longer is just fundamentally, more satisfying than a spring festival celebrating the joys of nature as they are happening. Christmas is narratively more hardcore.

mondaytosunday · 30/11/2024 11:01

No - religious aspect aside (it is a far more important holiday in that respect), Easter is just a meal and a few eggs. There not much anticipation, there is minimal to no decorating, there just isn't the same excitement! I love the cold, the snow (should we be so lucky), the cosiness! 'The most wonderful time of the year!'

user1471554720 · 30/11/2024 11:01

I wonder if all the people who enjoy Christmas would still enjoy it if they could not take the time off!! We only get the 3 bank holidays. There is a rush for annual leave and every Dept must be staffed, so you might get New Year's Eve off or maybe 27th. I hate having to work seeing nearly every 2nd person off and companies closing down. Also relations are off for lots of time and I have to prep, cook and host alongside my full time job.

I am in my 50s with a family and I get very tired at this time. At least for Easter there isn't so much of a fight for holidays at work and I can generally get a week. There is less expected with decorating, cooking and hosting so it feels like an actual break for ME. Christmas feels like it is a great break for some people but we all can't take time off.

chipshopElvis · 30/11/2024 11:02

I agree OP. I take a/l at Easter rather than Christmas. I like Christmas but it's too busy, everyone is exhausted and there's still a big stretch of winter to get through on the other side.

DustyLee123 · 30/11/2024 11:02

Easter is nothing to me now the kids are adults.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2024 11:04

I much prefer Easter. Holy Week liturgy is my favourite of the year. I love the Chrism mass on the Wednesday.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 30/11/2024 11:08

I used to work for the Church - very different vibes! Lot more going on at Easter, loads of 'serious' events and activities to organise! Christmas much more fun.

AshCrapp · 30/11/2024 11:25

Christmas is better because Easter day changes every year.

user1471554720 · 30/11/2024 12:36

WickerMam
The naievity it astounding. Everyone has kids and everyone wants the time off, along with single people who travel to their home place for Christmas. There must be certain cover, so we are in a day, out a day. It was suggested to me that my dh mind dcs while I work. I actually couldn 't get 2 weeks off even though dcs were off nursery. It upsets me having visitors calling, scrambling home from work to deal with a houseful to host. Of course Christmas is great for SOME people!!

Christmas is better because Easter day changes every year.

What difference does that make?

CrushOnEminem · 30/11/2024 13:15

I far prefer Christmas!

I get to take 2 weeks off & once Christmas day is done it's just a time to read, drink wine & relax.

MurdoMunro · 30/11/2024 13:24

I’m team Easter. It’s lovely to have a sparkly festival in mid winter but Christmas is just too much for me. Starts too early, goes on too long, people getting stressed around me because others aren't following their particular set of rules about what, when how things must be done. As much as I have worked to keep things as simple as possible I find it altogether overwhelming.

Even when Easter is early and the weather a bit rubbish I still have that rising feeling of energy that I get when the light comes back and I can smell spring on the air. I enjoy the special dinner and seeing friends and family much more at Easter.

irregularegular · 30/11/2024 17:04

All these people who take two (or three!) weeks of at Xmas - how much annual leave do you get? Dont you find yourself running short later?

FaceLikeACrackedScreen · 30/11/2024 18:38

I have to take three days leave, it is compulsory to save three days leave to allow closure.

29 days plus BH and no, I rarely manage to take all my leave during the year and carry over whatever I’m allowed to.

SerafinasGoose · 30/11/2024 18:47

I struggled with Christmas for years after a series of dreadful losses, not to mention the appalling behaviour of in-laws who took absolute joy in sabotaging it for others. I now have a renewed appreciation of the season but Ostara, Easter, spring break, or whatever else you choose to celebrate, will always be far and away my favourite holiday.

The best flowers are spring ones, the bird song is starting again, the days are longer and warmer. Also there's an absence of the conventional obligation so often associated with Christmas (for me anyway), and it's far lower-maintenance.

Nothing's not to like as far as I'm concerned.

Shityshitybangbang · 30/11/2024 18:52

Not everyone gets two weeks off at Christmas. Remember that when you are out in the sales on Boxing Day or ordering on Amazon.

Gingertam · 30/11/2024 18:53

Agree with you. I don't mind Xmas but prefer Easter. Still get the bank holidays and it means the end of winter for me.

CrushOnEminem · 30/11/2024 20:33

I get 32 days AL + bank holidays + TOIL. It all adds up. We get 4 days at Christmas & I have an additional 10 days still to use up so I'm putting some of then towards having 2 weeks off. I can carry a few forwards.

PointsSouth · 30/11/2024 23:29

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 29/11/2024 23:26

You should rephrase your query ‘ spring festival over winter festival’, because Easter and Christmas are just irrelevant ( and a bit offensive).

Offensive to whom?

PointsSouth · 30/11/2024 23:34

TheWorminLabyrinth · 30/11/2024 10:56

I don't know anyone that makes a thing of easter. Aside from people who are into the religious stuff.

I’m a fervent atheist, and I much prefer Easter to Christmas. Less fuss. Lamb is nicer than turkey. Daffodils are nicer than holly. There is no ubiquitous loop of Easter songs playing everywhere. No one expects you to wear a seasonal fucking jumper.

Passwordsaremynemesis · 01/12/2024 00:32

irregularegular · 30/11/2024 10:50

Nah. That's not Christmas. That's just a holiday.

Eh? It’s still Xmas you know, just not a cold weather one. Actually Xmas is a lot more low key here than the UK, which personally I prefer. And we do Christmas in July too when the weather is horrible, so people can do the Xmas jumper, turkey dinner thing if they want.

Playgroundincident · 01/12/2024 00:38
