To say Easter is better than Christmas?

alittlelatte · 29/11/2024 19:29

You get the same two extra bank holidays

There's more sunlight

The weather is sometimes warm, and even if it isn't you know spring is on the way

Easter egg chocolate tastes better than regular chocolate

It's cheaper (no presents)

Less pressure generally

Not at all. No decs, no mince pies, no alcohol and way less cheese.

Plus Easter Egg chocolate is just regular chocolate with more oil and shit added to it.

Itisjustmyopinion · 29/11/2024 23:53

Apart from the days off work I don’t even think of Easter as a thing. It’s never been a focus of the year like Christmas is. I love the build up to Christmas sometimes even more than the day itself. Would never say that about Easter, especially when it moves about every year

Allotmenthelp · 29/11/2024 23:57

I agree completely. I invite our family round at Easter, cook a roast dinner, swap Easter eggs and sit in the garden if it’s warm enough. I also put some decorations up for the kids. There’s no pressure at all, it’s like Christmas but without the 3 month build up and expense.
Spring fills me with joy. The flowers are coming up, the days are lighter and Summer feels around the corner.

I do love Christmas but as soon as it’s over we are facing January and a few more months of grey wet weather.

allaloneandlost · 30/11/2024 00:05

It's lighter, brighter and plenty of chocolate and no build up, whereas too much expectation with Christmas.

BeatsAntique · 30/11/2024 00:43

With the exception of delicious Easter eggs, there is literally nothing I enjoy about Easter. Christmas is my favourite time of year.

I love being cosy in the dark at home or going out at night with all the lights on in restaurants and pubs and looking in the beautiful storefronts (I do live in a major city, though, that may not be true everywhere), decorating the house. People seem to be much more social at Christmas.

I much prefer winter clothes and foods, going to people’s houses for drinks and hosting. I really enjoy all the different companies’ holiday parties my team gets invited to (especially the private sector ones because they’re usually super duper fancy) and buying and wrapping gifts.

Just put my tree up today with Christmas films and a mug of mulled wine. I fully accept that I’m like a child. 😂

For me, the build up is the best part! Once Thanksgiving is over (I’m in the US) I start getting really excited. I do alternate years here and in the UK.

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 30/11/2024 00:45

Agree 100% - much prefer Easter for all those reasons and lamb is nicer than turkey!

pizzaHeart · 30/11/2024 01:07

I love Christmas more, it’s so cosy, and picturesque, and I love the smell of Christmas tree and anticipation, and all pre Christmas fun. I love being out when lights are on, and love Christmas food, and Christmas TV.
I disagree about the weather - Easter can be quite cold, windy and rainy whereas the weather at Christmas can be cold but pleasantly fresh so there is no guarantees. And I know that both are religious festivals but Christmas is about birthday whereas Easter is about death.
Forgot to add that I don’t like Easter eggs

Elf36 · 30/11/2024 01:18

I'm 100% with you OP. I like Christmas but I feel like Easter is essentially celebrated on the scale that Christmas should be (but isn't). And you can't beat that feeling of Spring! And hot cross buns

Passwordsaremynemesis · 30/11/2024 01:29

Southern hemisphere Xmas is better than Northern hemisphere Xmas. It’s the middle of summer and we will have a couple of weeks off to chill by the pool with a fridge full of delicious food and a beer fridge full of booze. The bbq will be on frequently, and there will be many trips to the beach. I know some people get homesick for the trad UK Xmas, but I don’t miss it at all, I know all the lovely crisp snowy winter scene stuff hardly ever happens, and it’s bloody freezing when it does. Give me hot and sunny with a pool and air con any day! And Easter is pretty pointless, you can’t go away as everywhere is booked or busy, and I’d rather have cheese than chocolate any day.

coxesorangepippin · 30/11/2024 01:34

Meh, disagree

Christmas is great

Easter is just lame - Fri/Mon?

Christmas is like two weeks

And the gifts?!?!?

Copperoliverbear · 30/11/2024 01:35

I prefer Easter too. X

HoobleDooble · 30/11/2024 03:59

We only get the 2 bank holidays off for Easter and have to use our annual leave for any extra. Whereas we close between Christmas and New Year, usually finish on the 23rd but this year we're calling it a day on the 20th until 2nd January ... Christmas definitely wins!

Justhere65 · 30/11/2024 05:40

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 29/11/2024 23:26

You should rephrase your query ‘ spring festival over winter festival’, because Easter and Christmas are just irrelevant ( and a bit offensive).

Not if you are a Christian. How can you call it offensive?!

tilypu · 30/11/2024 06:30

I don't get holidays at Easter unless I book time off. That's not uncommon. So its a normal week for me. Therefore Christmas is better.

JMSA · 30/11/2024 06:32

In the nicest way, YABU! Easter is pretty much a non-event for me, but we love Christmas in our house.

WalterdelaMare · 30/11/2024 06:36

Easter’s a non-event for us. Christmas however, is really special.

Jinglingandmingling · 30/11/2024 06:40

Nope. I love Christmas. I always work right over Easter (self employed so finishing on 20 December this year and starting again on 2 January) and now Hotel Chocolat has gone down the pan there’s no decent chocolate at Easter anyway.

FaceLikeACrackedScreen · 30/11/2024 06:41

Christmas wins hands down for me. I always take three weeks off before returning to chaos in January. I love the quiet time I get to have at Christmas.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/11/2024 06:45

YABVU. Easter is boring. Unless you're religious, it's essentially just eating some chocolate. Which most people do at any time of year anyway! Christmas is way, way better. Most of the actually good things people are mentioning about Easter are really just things about spring. Amd those things would still happen if Easter didn't exist!

Pipconkermash · 30/11/2024 07:07

Easter isn’t really a thing.

telestrations · 30/11/2024 07:10

I love Easter. It's a very underrated holiday

Macaroni46 · 30/11/2024 07:14

I prefer Christmas despite only getting the statutory bank holidays off

tigger1001 · 30/11/2024 07:40

We don't get any bank holidays off work, apart from Christmas. They are added to our holiday entitlement instead so can be taken anytime. The office closes for Christmas though and doesn't open until new year, so it feels like a proper break.

Hate Easter eggs. Cheap tasting chocolate that's far more expensive than it ought to be.

We don't do a family dinner etc at Easter. For us it's just another day.

ChristmasFluff · 30/11/2024 08:11

Nothing is better than Christmas.

Easter doesn't have lights, or a tree and decorations, or parties weekly for the month beforehand, or advent calendars. The Easter bunny is no substitute for Father Christmas. The sense of connection to others is much less too.

Easter egg chocolate is the best though.

GroovyChick87 · 30/11/2024 08:12

I've always found Easter boring.
