All good stuff - I was more than happy for them to be for every day.

  • Organic vegetable stock 32% (water and organic vegetables: carrots, onions)
  • Organic cooked rice 16% (water, organic rice)
  • Organic tomatoes 12%
  • Organic carrots 11%
  • Organic beef 10%
  • Organic onions 7%
  • Organic red peppers 6%
  • Organic kidney beans 5%
  • Organic extra virgin olive oil <1%
  • Organic cornflour <1%
  • Organic paprika <1%
  • Organic cumin <1%
  • Organic black pepper <1%
  • Other stuff 0%

Err, exactly my point - quite a lot of carrot there, between the stock and the carrots separately listed.

Ok. Your kids.

I just wanted mine to get used to flavours that weren't sweet - like a plain piece of broccoli, not pureed broccoli with a load of carrot to sweeten it up.

Sputapor · 30/11/2024 17:25

I did blw. Wasn't scary at all (for me), and extremely easy. One is very fussy and one slightly fussy now, so it didn't work magic, but it suited us at the time.

They do though. Especially since finger foods usually come quickly alongside purées anyway.

It depends on how you do it - most people do introduce finger foods alongside but some don't for quite a long time.

@Parker231 seems to suggest that hers ate All jars and pouches

My SIL did exclusively puree for a jar until hers were 18 months.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a mix of purees and finger food though for us just finger food was easier.

We didn’t do finger food - we spoon fed them until they learned to use a knife and fork and eat properly.

Mercury2702 · 30/11/2024 20:19

I also did blw and don’t understand the comments about it being scary or a faff as it was so easy.

choking is silent and blue, gagging is coughing, loud and red and my son barely gagged. I obviously didn’t let him eat whole grapes or hard foods straight away but from 6 months he was having scrambled egg on toast, breakfast muffins made from egg, spag Bol (obv with a lot of mess) and he’s been a great little eater. No forward thought needed when going out and older aunties that were like oh no no they need puree first!, we’re amazed in the end

Sorry, do you mean that them using a knife and fork is eating properly so you spoon fed them until then?

That’s true.

We don’t do purées for long. DS was eating more finger foods than purées by 8-9 months and twin DD’s are 7 months and I think it will be the same for them.

flyinghen · 30/11/2024 22:21

Me too, I hate it. Did purées and followed my babies lead with giving more solid food. One was up to proper food after 2 months and one took much longer and gagged easily.

I'm so glad I'll never have to wean another baby again, it's the worst part of babyhood for me.

SouthLondonMum22 · 30/11/2024 15:13

Are they?

I just picked a random one out.

The ingredients of a Heinz cheesy pasta jar.

Vegetables (42%, Tomato (21%), Carrot (14%), Courgette (7%)), Water, Pasta (14%), Water, Durum WheatSemolina), Vegetarian Cheddar Cheese (9%,Milk), Rice Flour.

It doesn’t look full of shit to me.

They are. Full of salt. Wouldn't give my kids them. Rather prepare from fresh.

I mostly use Ella’s kitchen to be fair which are very good. I do use different brands occasionally.

Like I said Ella's kitchen is fine. The other ones are not

They are not all full of salt - the ingredients are listed so not difficult to check. Not everyone has the time to prepare from fresh.

Neodymium · 01/12/2024 12:31

My daughter did this herself by refusing purées. She would quite happily just breastfeed and refused to eat anything puréed so I ended up doing baby led weaning. It didn’t feel like she ate much and it felt like she was exclusively breastfed until 12 months or more because she would play with food and not really seem to eat much. Choking never crossed my mind though.

TheKeatingFive · 01/12/2024 13:15

I'll never understand why people expend so much energy worrying about this. Just do what you're comfortable with.

ribiera · 01/12/2024 17:02

What terrifies you? Is it the choking risk? The fact you can't tell how much they're eating or the fact that they move so quickly on to adult foods which are packed full of sugar and salt?
