  1. frequently coming out with dried snot, absolutely all over the face as if it hasn’t been wiped all day
  2. coming out a few times now with a pooey nappy, that looked like it had been there a little while and they hadn’t realised.
  3. My DD had been in the room for a while. Realised I never was told who her key person was. Asked one of the staff so she went to check and it was infact her, and she didn’t even know.

That is not good at all. I would never send a child home like that. (Cm)

Hannahandlucy · 26/11/2024 19:10

All of that would concern me yes

MumChp · 26/11/2024 19:11
  1. No.
  2. I would inform staff of nappy rash.
  3. Why haven't you asked before? Ask again or see manager.
MounjaroUser1233 · 26/11/2024 19:12

I would be concerned 😟
A bit of a runny nose is normal but that dried-on snot sounds horrible.
I think I would most be worried about the key worker not knowing they are a key worker!! Sort of suggests that they are just paying lip-service to the idea of having key-workers, and not actually in practice.

Tia86 · 26/11/2024 19:17

2 and 3 would concern me.
When you say the have been in the room a while, how long do you mean? Were they in a different room previously at the nursery and were you happy with things then?
Have there been staff changes to explain not knowing who the key person is? What happens when you pick up? Do they not give any info of their day?

Andtheworldwentwhite · 26/11/2024 19:37

As someone who worked in a nursery for years. Yes that would concern me.

Bluelane · 26/11/2024 19:39

Yes, yes, and yes.

ChocolateTelephone · 26/11/2024 19:52

All of that is poor imo

Northernduck91 · 26/11/2024 19:54

No, yes and yes

crostini · 26/11/2024 20:01

Yes, I would remove her from this setting

EmotionalSupportPotato · 26/11/2024 20:03

Yes

HelterSkelter224 · 26/11/2024 20:05

No yes and yes. Definitely to poo, that just shows a lack of care and attention, and not knowing who the key workers are is a huge red flag.

Brickiscool · 26/11/2024 20:06

Kids are so snotty and some of them get really upset when you wipe their face and the dried on snot doesn't do them any harm. (Although id probably clean it off before they go out to a parent having left it there all day!)

But points 2 and 3 are bad.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 26/11/2024 20:10

What sort of record/handover/diary do you get?

A snotty face could be just about ok - though at pick up today my nursery made sure he was wiped before he left, offered to do a change of a barely used nappy, and explained why my son wasn't in with his keyworker (in fact I had two handovers - with his keyworker from the morning and the lady who'd had him in the afternoon - they only moved him because he was being a bit boisterous for the littlest ones in his usual room!).

They didn't need to do any of that.

Do they have an open door policy at your nursery? It would be interesting if you could surprise them at a random point...

Nilon · 26/11/2024 20:11

Yes

I run a nursery and think you’re right to be concerned

JustToBeMe · 26/11/2024 20:12

Having never worked in a Day Nursery I have no idea, however having been, over the years a Nanny, Ofsted Registered Childminder, Pre School practitioner and 1-1/TA in mainstream primary, no child in my 'care' has been left like this!

I wouldn't leave my child there!
Would raise this with the manager in an email requesting a meeting...

BarbaraHoward · 26/11/2024 20:18

No I don't think so.

Yes - two through ft nursery from 10 months to school and I don't think it happened once.

Maybe - ours posted up the keyworkers in the baby room but it was never particularly flagged to parents. We liked all the staff, DC liked all the staff, there was low turnover in that nursery at that time, so it was never an issue for us.

doodleschnoodle · 26/11/2024 20:20

Yes. Kids get snotty but my two have always been wiped before handover. Never had a dirty nappy. And we are told keyworker from the start and get updates from that person in the daily journal and face to face at pick-up. They are labelled on the wall with the children under their remit too, with pics so the children can see too.

Goldbar · 26/11/2024 20:21

Yes, all of it. A certain amount of snot on the face is fine, they can't be checking them the whole time, but to leave it there long enough that it's very noticeable shows scant concern for your DC's dignity and comfort.

Together it all sounds like they don't really care about her or her comfort or view her as a little person who is worthwhile and interesting and deserves to be cared for.

Everydayimhuffling · 26/11/2024 20:21
  1. Depends on the age, as by pre-school mine were supposed to wipe their own noses to encourage independence.
  2. Yes. They should be picking up on that.
  3. Yes. She should know if it's her and they should tell you any time the key worker changes.
Strawberrymilkshakeplease · 27/11/2024 09:27

Thanks everyone. She is just turned 2. Sometimes she comes out and her face looks sore from the snot etc and it’s all over her sleeves when she has been wiping it herself, instead of the staff helping her with it

NuffSaidSam · 27/11/2024 09:28

Yes, it sounds awful.

Strawberrymilkshakeplease · 27/11/2024 09:28

Regarding the key worker, I just thought I would ask. The member of staff had to go and check on a bit of paper and said ‘it’s me, sorry, I should have known that’

calmandcollected101 · 27/11/2024 09:32

All wrong.

The nursery DS 2 goes to would never do this.

They have a WhatsApp group chat with his 2 key workers and DH and I.

They send regulars updates with pictures. And also update the app when he has eaten , what he has eaten , how much, when nappies was changed and naps.

That's really bad (and as I said, I was never bothered about the keyworkers and have no idea who the current one for my 4yo is)/
