Employers attitude.

An employer contacted me earlier this week.

They'd seen my CV on some website (I'd forgotten it was there, I'd been on that website a long time ago).

They sent me an email asking me to do an online interview for a position.

The positon seemed good. I decided to do the interview.

The onlie interviewer was so rude. After grilling me about different things for a while.

He said

"Why did you apply for this job". I said

"I didn't. Are you aware that the company contacted me and asked me to interview"

He then said "why should we hire you over all the over people that applied for this job"

. I again said "the company contacted me to do the interview for a start. Then I did answer the question and I listed my "qualities".

He was so rude. And I couldn't understand why he kept saying "why did you apply for this job" aggressively, when the company had sent me an email asking me to interview.

Why ask someone to do an interview and then be rude to them? I felt upset afterwards.

Weird experience

Extremely predictable comment. The bullies on mumsnet go on every thread to tear down the OP.

He contacted me to do the interview and he wasted MY time. I didn't contact him in any way.

Part of your poor attitude is your victim complex and being unable to take disagreement without seeing a conspiracy. Sometimes you're simply wrong.

Lallydallydune · 22/11/2024 12:59

TallulahBetty · 22/11/2024 12:58

So why not answer with why you decided to interview? You sound hard work.

Are you capable of reading the thread. I did answer him.

As I have said four times already.

I even wrote out my answer in detail on one of the posts.

@Lallydallydune I'll just sit and wait for someone who isn't you to say they think you're being bullied as well then. Fucking bonkers.

And sometimes people are simply bullies.

As we have all seen on mumsnet.

I wasn't wrong. I'm allowed to find an interviewer rude for a start. His whole manner was rude and nasty.

I'm also allowed to not want to take a job after sewing how rude the interviewer was.

rookiemere · 22/11/2024 13:01

None of us were at the interview, so it's hard to say for certain but it does seem to me that you gave off a vibe of not being particularly bothered about the job, hence his repeat questions.

If you already have a job you enjoy, then nothing lost really.

Saying you're not a bully.

And then saying "fucking bonkers".

Kind of contradict each other.

Can you say anything nice at all. Do you have that in you?

Oh quite, he was in the Mumsnet conspiracy to bully you and you behaved perfectly reasonably and normally, as always.

mummyh2016 · 22/11/2024 13:03

Oh hang on I'm bullying you now.

Typical MN, AIBU? Yes you are. Cue OP saying no I'm not because of XYZ.

Did you want opinions or just for everyone to blow smoke up your arse and agree with you?

Ugh, that sounds horrible! To me, it sounded like they needed external applicants to satisfy some sort of procedure but didn't have any intention of giving you the job and this guy was given the short straw to "fake interview" you basically. So he (like an arse) took it out on you.

PinkFrogss · 22/11/2024 13:06

This thread is great Grin

I have a feeling OP will tell us they begged her to take the job.

pikkumyy77 · 22/11/2024 13:07

Lallydallydune · 22/11/2024 12:24

No they didn't ask me to even apply.

They found my online CV on a website, and they asked me to do an online interview straight away.

And the online interview was at extremely short notice.

They sent me an email asking me to do an online interview. And the online interview was the very next day.

I took time out of my current job to do the interview.

It's the way he asked me. He was really rude.

They approached me. They gave me extremely short notice for an online interview.

They gave me one day's notice for the interview.

Then when I did the interview, he was rude to me.

What was the point?

Edited

I think the whole thing was a scam. My guess is that the interviewer is a third party contractor who needs to show the company that he has done a certain amount of wirk to fulfill his own contract with them. I used to know someone who worked in that intermediary position for a head hunting company. They spent hours combing through cvs and online trawling for people so they could show big company X that they could magic up candidates when needed. But there isn’t always a job on offer. They are just building up a stable of prospects.

Lallydallydune · 22/11/2024 13:07

I looked up this company on a company review website and there are some reviews saying " the interviewer was very rude".

There's no need for it.

But as they say an interview goes both ways.

The company are interviewing us, and we are also interviewing the company.

And the company is not for me

Yes I agree I think they were just messing me around!

Maybe I filled some tickbox for them.

Thanks for that sensible answer.

Yes I think they were just completely messing me around in some way.

I think I filled some agency HR tick box. Maybe the HR agency got commission for supplying so many candidates or something.

I'm fairly sure the initial contact will have been an external recruiter. I get Linkedin messages nearly every day asking if I want to interview for my job title at a different company but they're not from the company itself. I thought most people knew this though and know they trawl all day for anyone remotely suitable as they work on commission!

You were approached by a recruiter who found your CV. The employer did not ask you to apply. The employer conducting the interview would be asking the same questions to all candidates and you should’ve told them about what attracted you to the role and why you’re a good fit. Saying you were asked to apply isn’t acceptable and, frankly speaking, shows a complete lack of understanding in how recruitment works. You were not headhunted, even then there are some hoops to jump through. So YABVU.

I wasn't contacted on LinkedIn. And my CV wasn't on LinkedIn.

I was contacted through my personal email, by the specific company.

Incorrect.

The Employer did ask me to apply.

I was contacted by the Employer, not by a recruiter.
