Christmas is for the kids

AIBU to find the whole 'Christmas is for the kids' a bit of an eye roll...

Yes it's wonderful for children and I love that they find it magical but Christmas doesn't have to just be geared towards them
It's a good excuse to take a well deserved rest (if you are fortunate enough), see loved ones and treat yourself

If you are part of the 'Christmas is for the kids' gang - why do you think this? Vs Christmas is for everyone

Christmas is for Jesus. Unless you're not religious, then it's basically just about the coca cola lorry.

Having some kind of midwinter festival celebrating the darkest days of the year and looking ahead to the return of the light and spring waaay predates Christianity. The idea that it’s an either/or, Baby Jesus or crass consumerism, is silly.

One of my favourite christmases was when it was just the two of us. We went for a winter walk along the Thames, stopped in a pub, came back and cooked a massive roast, played silly games, had cocktails - it was so much fun. We have children now and it’s lovely, but I still remember that Christmas on our own fondly.

Christmas to me is something that everyone can look forward to when the nights start to turn dark and there is a feeling that something nice is coming.

It's definitely more than just for kids. For example, my fitness group have always had a Christmas night out as they do this year, I also have a few work christmas lunches (business facing job) and a two night get away with my boyfriend. None of those things involve children however when it comes to the day, even at 17&13yrs my kids will have there stockings and presents, and I will still love seeing the looks on there faces. It's a whole month, there is enough to go around for everyone to get something from it (if they celebrate and want too), not just children.

I do think it is for the kids. I do what makes them happy as it’s formative for them, they’ll remember it always and form their own life choices from either happy or dreary memories. Magic is created in those early years.

if certain family members had their way we would be roaming around various family members homes visiting people the children don’t know, who have already had 60+ Christmas’s themselves.

Adults have had their time. Let the kids enjoy it.

It's not either/or. Everyone can enjoy Christmas - I love it myself - though of course it's especially magical for children.

Christmas is for Christians. The festive season is for everyone. Santa is for kids.

Santa is for the USA. Father Christmas is for the UK.

Never said Father Christmas in my life and I am as British as they come

Our family have had a lot of loss as most families have but it’s for that exact reason that Christmas is so special to me. I have my memories of childhood with the people who are not here anymore and love to spend time with those that still are.

While I don’t do mountains of gifts for my immediate family I do treat them but it’s usually an experience rather than an actual thing. So concert or theatre tickets, a flying lesson, an overnight stay for example

Well, quite right. We’ve only talked about Santa Claus in the UK since the 1880s! Arriviste.

I want to spend Christmas at yours, please! (Am not a child. :D)

As long as you bring booze and a present, and you're up for a laugh then you're very welcome.

My Christmas is fucking awesome. No children anywhere in sight.

Christmas is for Christians. The festive season is for everyone. Santa is for kids.

Why? The early Christians didn’t celebrate any day for the birth of Christ. It’s an accretion of various churches at various times
