Forgot to attend hair appointment

I feel terrible. I was due to have highlights yesterday and I completely forgot.
What should I do? I was thinking I’d go round to the salon tomorrow after work with a box of chocolates to apologise. I’d take wine but she doesn’t drink.
There is a £50 deposit which obviously I will lose, but is there anything else I should do? I feel awful!

An apology and a box of chocolates is more than stylists get from most people who miss their appointments. I think it sounds wonderful

Createausername1970 · 17/11/2024 14:27

Pay for the appointment. If you didn't turn up with no warning then the hairdresser has lost the revenue.

TMGM · 17/11/2024 14:27

Don’t feel too bad, it was a honest mistake and that’s exactly why they have the deposit.

Yes, this. I’d imagine they’d much prefer not to be down on their takings rather than be given a bunch of flowers.

No. There is no need to pay for a treatment you never had. Losing the deposit is fair because the stylist will have used that time for something else but will also receive some money.

Wingedharpy · 17/11/2024 14:30

Ring and apologise for your mistake.
I've turned up at the Doctor's surgery when I should have been at the hairdressers - thankfully, both were understanding and thought it was hilarious.

MadisonAvenue · 17/11/2024 14:32

I think you need to pay for the appointment.

At the salon I go to you’d have to pay 100% of the appointment cost.
If you cancel in the 48 hours before the appointment they expect a 50% payment.

What exactly do you think the stylist will "use the time for" that will generate the same income as the appointment?

Pandasnacks · 17/11/2024 14:39

Is she not going to charge you for the full appointment anyway?

Sirzy · 17/11/2024 14:39

I would offer to pay the full amount.

I don’t know, I’ve never missed one before. I haven’t got any messages from her asking for full payment.

The cost of the highlights would probably come to about £90. I’ve paid £50 already as a deposit.

You don’t need to give wine or chocolates. Just apologise by text or verbally and rearrange. These things happen and the deposit is a layer of financial protection for your stylist.

MellersSmellers · 17/11/2024 14:53

Relinquish the deposit. Apologise profusely and reschedule the appointment so they end up having both ££ from you. I don't know why you're worrying about chocs and flowers- nobody's died!

Work admin that she would have had to do another time anyway,

Cleaning

Shopping for supplies

etc etc etc

letmego24 · 17/11/2024 15:08

Just give a call to say sorry about the mix up you forgot and make a few one.
Why all the hand wringing ??

letmego24 · 17/11/2024 15:09

They didn't use colour and they didn't use equipment and you didn't have the colour!!
Ours text the day before and calll if you are late

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that there could have been a walk-in customer. Not guaranteed, obviously.

It's a bit surprising that for such a long appointment they didn't try to call the OP.

CautiousLurker1 · 17/11/2024 15:47

I think an inperson apology and a box of chocolates is fiar, given you’ve paid a deposit. You are not required to pay for the full appointment so don’t offer, not least as you’ve effectively paid the deposit to cover her time, the outstanding amount will be for product/materials etc and she dod not use them - she could have called you to ask why you were late/of you were on your way etc and reminded you that you were liable for the full amount had that been the arrangement. But you say she didn’t?

Btw, I also agree with other PPs that it’s odd she didn’t call you as most people call me if I am late to an appointment.

Wishfives · 17/11/2024 16:39

The hairdresser could have called you, surely? My hairdresser would have. Most people arrive early for their appointments at the salon I go to, so my hairdresser would have noticed and phoned me.
In your position I would ring and say you are sorry about missing the appointment, what's the plan for rebooking and do you need to pay anything extra or does the deposit cover it? Then it's up to them out they deal with the it.
You won't be the first or the last to forget an appointment.

This.

Sugarflub · 17/11/2024 16:41

The £50 deposit is fine, that will pay for their time and it's not like they used any of the consumables for the appointment. I'd just be honest and apologise, if you use the salon regularly and are usually reliable it'll be fine.

Lyannaa · 17/11/2024 16:47

Most places will be forgiving if it's a one-off.

Annettecurtaintwitcher · 17/11/2024 16:52

Flowers and chocolates seem really weird to me! Just apologize and make a new appointment. It must happen all the time. A lot of places ask for the full amount if you miss the appt, she has set a £50 deposit which must be the amount that suits her as that is what she has set!

OliviaRodrighost · 17/11/2024 16:53

Hairdresser here. I would normally call the person after about ten minutes if they don’t show up, did they not try to contact you?

If I were you I would just message or call apologising, even if just to make it less awkward next time. As per pp, the deposit is there for protection and they are getting money for doing nothing! if I have a no-show, I tend to use that spare time to do something like admin, stock take etc so it’s not totally wasted time.
