Forgot to attend hair appointment

I feel terrible. I was due to have highlights yesterday and I completely forgot.
What should I do? I was thinking I’d go round to the salon tomorrow after work with a box of chocolates to apologise. I’d take wine but she doesn’t drink.
There is a £50 deposit which obviously I will lose, but is there anything else I should do? I feel awful!

The 50 deposit covers it. Just call and say your sorry and book a New appointment.

NewDaye · 17/11/2024 17:03

You don’t need to do anything further. She’s been paid decently for not doing your hair already. Flowers and chocolates are a ridiculous proposition!

Contact her if you want to reschedule but you certainly don’t need to grovel.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 17/11/2024 17:06

If you are feeling awful about it, the way to stop feeling awful is to pay the whole price of the appointment. It's worth it to feel the guilt lift, and the stylist will probably be touched that you've offered without being asked.

Isobel201 · 17/11/2024 17:08

My hairdresser normally texts the morning of the appointment to confirm I'm coming, or the night before. Did they not try to contact you?

niadainud · 17/11/2024 17:13

It's up to the hairdresser to set their "fine" for a missed appointment, surely - i.e. the deposit. I don't see any need for the OP to offer to pay for the entire value of the service which she didn't have (so the hairdresser did not incur any product costs or labour).

Username197 · 17/11/2024 17:25

I think if the cost is usually around £90 and you’ve paid £50 anyway, I would say that covers her labour time sufficiently. The £40 would be cost of colourant, foils, toner, products, etc. She’s not really out of profit, just hasn’t sold the products as quickly as she planned. An apology is fine.

Tink3rbell30 · 17/11/2024 17:27

Most salon's policies are you pay in full in situations like this. I'd do that.

Amarige · 17/11/2024 17:29

Box of chocolates is just awfully cringeworthy.

Phone and apologise, lose the deposit and rebook.

No need to get in such a flap about it.

bananaboats · 17/11/2024 17:29

Flowers & chocs totally unnecessary just call & apologise & ask to rebook.

Londontown12 · 17/11/2024 17:37

Hairdresser here as well !!
normally u get a reminder text !! if your late I would call 10 mins into missed appointment!
I did have a client do this and she bought me a big tin of roses she was genuinely sorry !!
And I appreciated it !

Portakalkedi · 17/11/2024 17:43

They're getting £50 for doing nothing, I would think that's enough! Apology as well would be polite.

daisychain01 · 17/11/2024 17:48

Remember to put your appointments as reminders into your phone, for 4 hours before, or even the day before. It's saved my skin loads of times.

Also ask them to send you a reminder text 2 days before, my hairdresser always does that. That, plus my phone alarm means I don't forget 😊

Aquacitra · 17/11/2024 17:49

I work in a salon. Call and apologise, ask to rebook. When you go again make sure you're early and take chocolates or similar (we have a team of 8-12 depending on the day and nice cakes or cookies for the staff are always welcomed).

Wishfives · 17/11/2024 17:54

@Aquacitra why "and take chocolates or similar" for the team? Totally not needed the "team" weren't all doing her appointment.

ItsAMario · 17/11/2024 17:55

Did she not message or call you? I would check you’re not required to pay for the full appointment if you want to rebook first! My hairdressers take a 50% deposit and you can move your appointment as long as it’s more than 48 hours notice. Less than that and they keep it. No shows have to pay for the cost of their appointment first if they want to rebook. They are a little more flexible with regulars.

Differentstarts · 17/11/2024 18:12

I would just call apologise and rearrange I think taking a box of chocolates in makes it awkward as they will be keeping your deposit so you've paid for their time

mrspresents · 17/11/2024 18:18

I cancelled an appointment last week the morning of, so I text and offered to pay for the appointment but she said it was fine.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 17/11/2024 21:48

Createausername1970 · 17/11/2024 14:27

Pay for the appointment. If you didn't turn up with no warning then the hairdresser has lost the revenue.

But she didn't have to use all the products so she definitely doesn't owe the full fee. I'm sure she had other stuff to get on with - the deposit and an apology is enough op.
