to not feel comfortable with this

I’m prepared to be told that IBU

My house went up for sale on Monday. Lots of interest.

anyway, it’s worth noting that I’m not a prolific user of Facebook but I have it and I don’t mind it. I don’t get sent any notifications so have to go into the app. My friend posted the right move link to my house on Facebook yesterday and tagged me in the post saying “My friend youngoldagain’s house is up for sale…”

I have never posted pictures inside my house on social media so no one would ever know that the house is mine and there’s nothing identifiable in the pictures so if you looked at the house on rightmove you wouldn’t know it was mine.

there are comments underneath commenting on the house (all positive) but I just feel a bit off about people seeing into my house and passing comment. All her friends and all of mine can see it.

im aware I probably sound very precious - I’m not. I just find social media a bit overwhelming and this feels a bit intrusive?

Should I say “I really appreciate your help in trying to get my house sold but would prefer if you had kept me anonymous..”?

She probably should have checked, but anyone could see or share it as it's all in the public domain so it doesn't make much difference really. Assuming you don't mind your friends seeing your house!

I don’t really want hundreds of people knowing it’s my house (I think she has about 700 friends on Facebook).

if she’d asked if have told her if was sharing it to not tag me in it.

I'd be really put out by that.

SlightlyGoneOff · 15/11/2024 18:06

But surely your friends have seen inside your house, and your friends’ friends are only going to take a marginal interest and say something vaguely nice, because they know you can see their comments?

Anyone can see it on Rightmove but they wouldn't know it's the OP though!

No I wouldn't like that but then I don't post anything personal/identifying online.

Pandasnacks · 15/11/2024 18:06

It'd be nice if she checked but anyone who's interested can see it on rightmove anyway. If a friend or neighbour puts their house up for sale I always have a look on rightmove. Your friends probably would have had a nosy anyway

Neither do I. There are no pictures inside my house on social media so this feels very intrusive!

I have work colleagues and acquaintances on Facebook and now they know what my house looks like And can identify me as the owner 🤣

verycloakanddaggers · 15/11/2024 18:08

I wouldn't like that.
You can ask her to remove it, just say you want to leave the agents to deal with everything as you're finding it stressful.

AutumnLeaves24 · 15/11/2024 18:08

I would be pissed off too.

BlueMum16 · 15/11/2024 18:09

I'd be telling her to remove it immediately.

No one needs to know it's 'your' house

But only people who know the house is up for sale would look, most people wouldn't know to look.

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/11/2024 18:09

I wouldn’t like that either! She should have asked. Politely ask her to take it down

You need to alter your Facebook setting so people can’t just tag you without you reviewing it first

youngoldthing · 15/11/2024 18:09

i think it’s the tagging me that made me uncomfortable. If she’d left it anonymous I’d not have bothered.

i should add that I’m not furious or up in arms. Maybe just a bit uncomfortable and slightly bemused?

Yes! I have done this today! Although it would still have been visible on her page I believe.

I think your friend was well meaning and is trying to help you sell it however it was a bit thoughtless. Tell her you really appreciate the gesture but can she remove it because you don’t want everyone knowing where you live.

SpunkyCritic · 15/11/2024 18:11

I presume she was trying to help you, raising awareness of the sale.
Personally I wouldn't be bothered, but if you feel uncomfortable why don't you just ask her to remove it?

SunshineAndFizz · 15/11/2024 18:11

I'd hate that. Yes I'd say something to her.

I think you can have it deleted but that might be a bit awkward!

Definitely - she’d never have done it out of malice. I know she’d have been trying to be helpful.

Inkyblue123 · 15/11/2024 18:13

Ask her to remove it. She was trying to be nice but didn’t think it through. Whist it is on right-move you still remain anonymous. She’s removed that anonymity. I wouldn’t want the local neighbourhood Facebook group knowing what the inside of my house is like. It feels very invasive.

Thunderpants88 · 15/11/2024 18:13

You can remove the tag

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 15/11/2024 18:15

I absolutely would hate that. Very poorly thought out on the part of your friend. And I think some people on here are missing the point about friends knowing what your house looks like. Of course they do. But now people who know you the tiniest bit know how your bedroom is decorated and what model fridge you have. I totally understand you feeling somewhat exposed.

Can you not just untag yourself?

youngoldthing · 15/11/2024 18:17

I’ve just sent her a whatsapp

“Hi XX, thank you for helping me out by putting the rightmove link to the house on Facebook. I’m a bit unnerved by everyone knowing that the house is mine and where I live. Can you remove my name from your post please?”
