How old is too old to have a baby?

Just wondering how old is too old to have a baby? Fair enough being healthy etc is fine.. but how old is too old?

OP posts:
Yoonimum · 15/11/2024 20:35

I was a first time mum at 45 and delighted. I might have been more tired than younger mums but I was a lot more together emotionally than I would have been as a 20 something mother.

Yes I’m considering another baby I’m 41. So I am too old. Thanks for making a 41 year old feel good. 👍

But you asked, how old is too old...
Some have replied that they feel you are too old.
Why ask at all?

TeddyBeans · 15/11/2024 20:37

I had mine at 27 and 32. I had in my head that I wanted to be done by 30 but life had other plans. For myself I want to be able to be a hands on mum and nanna if my kids have kids of their own. I think I'd say too old is having a high probability of dying before my kids reached age 30

Madsciencecovid2020 · 15/11/2024 20:44

I have 4 children and my youngest ti's 12. I was 39 when I had him and no regrets. He was last my 4th c section . He was also the child that flagged how neurodivergent my other children were!! 😂No regrets love it and would not change a thing!

EarthlingHere · 15/11/2024 20:50

I’m 30, only just met someone (6 months) so unlikely we will be able to have children now. My heart is absolutely broken but think we’ve just left it too late. Partner is 31 now.

Shaz83 · 15/11/2024 17:41

yes I’m considering having another baby I’m 41. And i thought maybe I’m too old… but thanks to the posts that are positive have made me feel reassured ❤️

This makes no sense. On your other thread you've said you are pregnant with a daughter? Is she still being considered?

No one cares lol. You're an elderly mother and you think it's great.

But would very much like to know why you're lying that "all 3 of my children are under 4" on one thread when you've got "DD aged 9" on another, and the threads are 2 months apart.

Liars on the internet intrigue me.

Why you still messaging because I didn’t mention my 9 year old….. it doesn’t make me a liar lol 😂 I was basically saying I have 3 under 4 my 9 year old bless her is self managed hence why I didn’t mention her in that sense…. Maybe I should off now if I had known there were going to be very angry people on here who need to know everything… lo do you need to know if I got pets or if I have older sons in there 20’s??

@EarthlingHere You are very young to be thinking like this! I doomscroll on these threads and make myself stressed! I met my partner at 33 and had two close together. I don't think I was too old. Don't let these threads scare you.

I understand having a personal cut off point for whatever reason but to be 'absolutely heartbroken at leaving it too late' when you're only 30 is crazy!

Why on earth do you feel like it's unlikely you'll be able to have kids now?

The average age for a women in the UK to have their first baby is creeping up to 30 now so there's basically as many 35 year olds having their first as there are 25 year olds

Lmao.

All your 3 children children are under 4. Except the one that's not. Obviously 🤣

That's the funniest attempt at trying to talk your way of being caught telling fibs I think I've seen on MN.

Ah OP's got all different versions of how many kids she's got depending on what day it is.

And she does not like being caught out on it

She definitely has a 6 bedroom house and is very rich too.

Nah you’re good for a few years yet! I was 32 and 36. Why not ask your partner if they’d be keen to have kids in the next couple of years, they might surprise you.

The average age is actually 31 and predicted age to be 33 by 2026

I had my last at 33. 35 was my cut off…I feel quite tired dealing with my 11yr old now. Conversely, I’m looking forward to being out of the ‘young child’ years by late 40s.

I was the same. I had my first at 31, and my second at 34. I told dh if we had any issues conceiving, I wouldn't be having another after 35. Dc2 is now 5, and I have noticed just how much more tired I have been compared to my first. It may just be having two and having more sleepless nights in succession; 2 babies in 3 years takes it's toll.
I know if I had a third, the child wouldn't get all of me like the other two, so it would be unfair. I just knew I was done after the second

I would personally hate to be changing nappies in my 40s. When I turn 40 they'll be 8, and 6. I'm pleased to be out of the thick of it, and to be getting some rest, and sleep again.

I'm 41 and pregnant so certainly doing my best to raise that average 😅

Fakinguntilyoumakeit · 15/11/2024 21:40

@KimberleyClark haha, did pp mean to say 40, and 41? At 30 I was just starting to feel ready for a baby! We aren't in the 1950s 🤭

Oh you’re being dramatic. Plenty of posters here have said they had their first much older than you are now. There’s no need to be “heartbroken” 🙄

I met my partner at 31 or 32.. (can’t remember), we had our first with I was 35 and I’ll be 37 when second due. Thankfully and very fortunately, both have been spontaneous conception - first was a surprise, and second was planned with only a couple of months trying.

Pick up the pieces of your broken heart and have a conversation with your partner re when/ if they want kids. Time to start building a plan. Don’t date like you’re 21.. life is different this side of 30!

@LePetitMaman

OP been caught out, was wondering how long it would take others to check them out.

No fear they will be back shortly with #threadnumber5

ColaCar · 15/11/2024 21:48

for me anything after 40 is too late. Iv had one friend that died and left young kids at 45 and another that went through menopause at 46 and it hit her like a ton of bricks!

BottomsByTheirTops · 15/11/2024 21:59

Menopause
That's what it means.
You're now too old to have a baby.

keffie12 · 15/11/2024 22:08

I had my eldest 3 in my 20s at 23, 25 and 27. My 4th when I was 35. I was exhausted just looking at him in the morning.

It's down to each person circumstances. My daughter had her first in May 2022 at 35 and her 2nd in December 2023 at 36. She loving it and no more tiring for her than the average mom in her 20s.

Everyone different

Waffle19 · 15/11/2024 22:11

I had mine at 32 and 35. 38 is my cut off for a third, but I don’t think we’ll go there as it feels too old considering we have two (I think first baby is different if you’ve started late for whatever reason or had long fertility struggles).
