What is it about men ? ( in swimming pools)

Another argument in the pool today. Several lanes available to share…one with 2 guys , ours with 2 women and one mixed. The man who arrived later chose ours. Nearly headed into me at 50 mph. I challenged him and suggested he moved into the lane next door with faster male swimmers. He said that he did not want to swim in the lane with the side of the pool. I said my preference was to swim in peace with other women and why was it that my preference was seen as not as important as his . He insisted that he would stay . I told him it was a macho view and we women should have our views and wishes given the same weight. So fed up that again an entitled male pushed it even when challenged.

Right lets say you get into a jacuzzi at the gym. An old man gets in with you and tells you thar have good tits and a good arse.

Let's see how comfortable you feel and if you'll stick up for the "poor old men" then.

There's men that go to my gym that are total perverts.

Women have stopped getting into the jacuzzi altogether, for fear of getting stuck with them

Edited

That's strange, there's quite a few that get in mine and have a good old natter, I know some of their life stories.

There's one that sings badly also.

Edingril · 11/11/2024 20:26

Why does it have to be a male female thing? You made it sexist

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 20:27

A man crashed into me at speed while in a swimming lane once. That's why I don't get about some of these men either.

They just stick their head underwater and swim the whole lane, like they own the whole lane, they don't check who's in front of them.

Any time I swim in a lane, I stick my head up so often, to make sure their is no one in front of Me to crash into

MartinCrieffsLemon · 11/11/2024 17:30

You want to swim with just women? Find a pool with women only sessions...

YABU to try and make it an argument about sex when if anything it was about speed. And some people don't like having the side next to them, smacking your hand into that hurts more than the rope!

A lot of the women I see at my DL seem to do more nattering at one end or the other, than actual swimming!

It's all very strange, there seem to be men and women bumping along quite nicely at my swimming pool/gym/sauna/jacuzzi.

Its not strange at all. It happens in loads of gyms.

In fact the Owner of of one of my local gyms just got charged for sexually assaulting a woman in the gym.

He was the owner of the gym and he also gave physical therapy. He assaulted a woman In the gym by walking in on her while she was changing, and then by groping her vagina and breasts, instead of giving her physical therapy.

He was also found guilty of filming women getting changed In the gym rooms.

That's the calibre of the gyms round my way

ThatsNotMyTeen · 11/11/2024 20:31

I joined David Lloyd as our council pool turned really crap after Covid and stopped women only session amongst other things.

I am a plodder rather than a lane swimmer but the indoor pool is totally overrun with men. The jacuzzi and steam room too and they spread out and make weird huffing noises. I don’t know why there are always so fucking many of them all the time.

I now swim in the outdoor pool pretty much all the time; they rarely venture out there and the ones who do are very courteous

I don't understand that.

You say it doenst happen at your gym. First of all how could you possibly know that.

Presumably you are only there for a couple of hours a week. Arguments could happen when you're not there

No I mean it's strange you think that women don't go to jacuzzi's when there's lots of women who get into my jacuzzi and have a good old natter.

And one that sings badly.

It would be nice if they would be quiet, but I'm capable of switching off from people.

LondonQueen · 11/11/2024 20:32

I don't think I could get that worked up about it tbf. The issue is his speed, not his sex. What if it was a faster women in the same lane, would you expect her to move over into the lane with the men? I imagine not.

TheTidyBear · 11/11/2024 20:36

No, I'm at the pool/sauna/jacuzzi every day for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

I'm amazed you've seen all these things. Maybe it's because I live in a nice area.

Oh I see you mean it's strange that the women don't talk in the jacuzzi in my gym.

I guess we just respect each other's space. A jacuzzi is quite a vulnerable area to start with, you're in a small space without much clothes on. I would just respect someone's space. And I know people pay a lot to use gyms, so we wouldn't intrude on each other's jacuzzi time

I live in a nice area too.

Unless you're going to a gym in an extremely expensive country golf club where you all know each other -

yes then that might affect the atmosphere, the ladies would probably chat more, and the men wouldn't be nasty to each other's wives if they know them

What does respecting someone's space have to do with people talking to each other?

People who go to the gym don't want to be talked to by strangers usually. That's gym etiquette.

No, I've been going to my leisure centre daily for years, and no, it doesn't seem to be the shitty dramatic picture you're painting.

I said that when me and women (that I don't know!) get in the jacuzzi , we don't talk to each other. You said thats trange.

So you're not making sense.

Do you talk to people you know at the gym . Or are you talkng to strangers

TheTidyBear · 11/11/2024 20:44

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 20:42

I did!

Well that doesn't happen.

What does happen is two female friends having a long chat about anything and everything. Frequently. Same with the men. Some people talk in the jacuzzi some people don't, it's nothing to do with the sex of the person.

I don't talk to people no

This isn't making sense because you're not a regular jazuzzi user, obviously.

We are talking about two different things. I'm talking about talking to strangers in the gym

When you get in a jacuzzi in the gym alone, and another female gets in (that you don't know and have never met before) ,

Do you talk to her

How frequently do you go to the gym? It seems like you're just regurgitating something you read on social media.

I go a lot. 4 times a week usually.

Most people go to the gym a lot.

They buy a gym membership and they go every week to get the worth out of the membership

NamechangeRugby · 11/11/2024 20:55

In a public swimming pool, personally I would hate the lanes to be segregated by sex. It makes no sense to me. There are many women who swim faster than men and I have seen as many women as men behave poorly / aggressively / thoughtlessly. Similarly as many men as women behave impeccably.

To me, swim etiquette is to get into the lane than best reflects your actual pace compared to the people actually in that lane at the same time. Go the correct direction. If slower, be mindful of your turns to let the faster swimmer/s go past. If you are regularly holding people up, go down a lane. If you are in a slow lane, do not feel harassed, it is for faster folk to go up a lane, but do pause at each end in case there is someone marginally faster who would appreciate going at a slightly faster pace.
