Would IBU to ask for £100 to the person who I rehome my dogs to? 2 of them. They're a pedigree breed, spayed and neutered, not KC reg
opinions welcome. Thanks

I don’t understand. Are you rehoming your dogs and want money for them? Is there any reason why you’re not going through a reputable rescue centre? Dogs sold online can end up being used as bait dogs and other awful things. Can you live with yourself if that happens to your dogs….

BMW6 · 11/11/2024 15:37

Please rehome them via a reputable dog home, not privately (unless you know the people very well and know they won't pass them on again or sell them). Some poor dogs end up being used as bait for illegal dog fighting.

🍪

Purplewarrior · 11/11/2024 15:39

WTF?

Brefugee · 11/11/2024 15:39

yes you are being U to ask for money for dogs you are disposing of

How did you find the people who are taking them on?

Lilith666 · 11/11/2024 15:41

Please don't do this, as previous poster said, your dogs could end up in a terrible place. Take them to a reputable animal rescue centre.

NeedABabelFish · 11/11/2024 15:47

Unless you're experienced in conducting home checks, e.g. knowing what to look for and knowing the right questions to ask, then please go through a reputable rescue. There are hundreds of independent rescues and the majority of them have Facebook pages/groups.

Someone with less than good intentions would prefer a "free to good home" dog but £100 is relatively cheap so may attract them. At least they're neutered so can't be used for breeding but they may be suitable as bait dogs.

A woman will often be used as a prospective "new owner"; she'll be lovely and even show you a picture (from the internet) of her house. If you go to visit to check her out she'll give you the address of a house she's borrowed for that reason. You won't ever know what becomes of your dog/s.

If you genuinely can't keep your dogs please do the right thing for them and let someone experienced help you rehome them.

SiouxsieSiouxStilleto · 11/11/2024 15:48

This isn't going to end well.

ThrillhouseVanHouten · 11/11/2024 16:01

No, we don't think you should sell your 2 dogs for £100.

PolkadotParsnip · 11/11/2024 16:03

As PP's have said, please rehome your dogs via a reputable animal rescue centre. It's naive to think that everyone has the dogs' best interests at heart, there are some truly awful people out there. Could you imagine if they were used as bait dogs? We adopted our dog from a rescue centre and the thought of palming her off to a random person truly horrifies me, who knows what her life would be like. I would hate for her to be frightened.

Normallynumb · 11/11/2024 16:04

WTF are you thinking?

ilovesooty · 11/11/2024 16:05

I think under Lucy's Law it may now be illegal to ask for money for your dogs unless you are a registered breeder.

coffeesaveslives · 11/11/2024 16:05

Why would you sell your dogs for £100? Hmm

WiddlinDiddlin · 11/11/2024 16:09

Please go via a rescue.

Many rescues will advertise, home check etc and facilitate the rehoming of dogs whilst the dogs themselves stay at your home and go direct to the adopters home, never having to go into kennels at all. This is much better for the dogs.

Others will have foster homes that take the dogs in and again the dogs do not have to go into kennels.

Rehoming yourself without homechecks, means your dogs are at risk (even if you ask a nominal fee for them) from all sorts of unpleasant people.

Rehoming is sometimes unavoidable, and the right thing to do, but they're your dogs, you have a responsibility to them to find them the best home, not the first people who will pay money for them (and finding a home that will take both is difficult, at a time when finding homes for second hand dogs is already incredibly difficult!).

Soubriquet · 11/11/2024 16:10

If you are genuinely rehoming your own dogs, £100 is not enough. You need to price them at a reasonable rate but not too low to attract people who will abuse them. Going through a rescue is so much better. If you can, you can foster your dogs till they get a new home.

They need to be around £300-£500

KitsyWitsy · 11/11/2024 16:16

Horrible.

InformerYaNoSayDaddyMeSnowMeIGoBlameALickyBoom · 11/11/2024 16:19

£100 isn't enough to put people involved in dog fighting off.

I suspect you're not trying to do that and just fancy less hassle with the dogs and an easy £100 though.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 11/11/2024 16:24

You're not rehoming them, you're selling them.

Please use a registered charity to rehome them. They will carry out all the necessary checks and help contribute towards the upkeep of the charity

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/11/2024 16:45

🤔

Nothanks17 · 11/11/2024 17:20

Not only are you disposing of your dogs, not having even said some sob story reason why, but you are decsribing their worth like a second hand pair of designer shoes 'well they are a make so can get a bit of dosh'

Are you for real

Go through rescue and direct rehome. Rescues are struggling as it is so least you can do is care for them until a home is found and perhaps to do the vet work up (spay/neuter, up to date vacs flea wormer and health check).

No you should not sell them for £100, rescues ask for fees/donations more than that to cover part of the work they have put in, this will be cheap as people have said, and seems more like you just want a bit in return for upheaving your dogs lives

This will come across harsh but what you said is hurtful I love my dogs to bits and no they are not designer breeds but I would never think oh they look like this I should sell them for 100 bloody quid, they are my babies

CollisionCourse · 11/11/2024 17:27

Why £100, what made you think of that number? Why not £6.45, or £100 each?

Attelina · 11/11/2024 17:36

Profiting from your dogs anxiety at leaving their home to go to another is in extremely bad taste.

If anything you should be giving them money as they kindly take on your dogs.

ReadWithScepticism · 11/11/2024 17:40

YABU. Take them to a reputable rescue and give the recsue centre at least £100 towards the cost of rehoming them properly.

spiderlight · 11/11/2024 17:42

Please, please, request the help of a reputable rescue that will carry out thorough home-checks and make sure your dogs go to suitable homes, and will offer their new families advice and backup if needed as they settle. Otherwise you risk the dogs being turfed out again and bouncing from home to home, or being sold on and ending up God-knows-where - just Google images of bait dogs if you don't know what I'm getting at.

I think under Lucy's Law it may now be illegal to ask for money for your dogs unless you are a registered breeder.

Pretty sure Lucy’s law is about puppies and kittens and making sure they are viewable
with the mum and not puppy farm animals from mums in a terrible state being sold with a fake mum.
