…found out about heated blankets.

They are the most beautiful thing,

I may never leave my house again. Or turn the heating on.

I have a heated blanket on the bed that goes under the sheet. I simply must get this! I have shamefully moved my telly into the bedroom so I can stay warm in the evenings but this sounds like it would be lovely on the couch!

MuggleMe · 13/11/2024 22:22

I have a Lakeland one for wfh. Wish it was a little bigger, or a poncho/blanket combo sounds amazing!

HaddyAbrams · 13/11/2024 22:27

We love ours.
If you get your gas/electricity from OVO then Google their winter support fund. I don't know what the income cut off is, but they send free ones if you qualify.

DoctorAngelface · 13/11/2024 21:49

It's very easy. The lead clips in and out. Then you wash it like a normal blanket.

Can they go in the machine? I'd assumed they can't.

Rubyupbeat · 13/11/2024 22:32

I have to get into a cold bed, so in that situation a heated blanket is no good for me , but for years I have a small one on the sofa, for the small of my back, now that is Heaven.

Jaehee · 13/11/2024 22:38

I've been considering one but I can't decide whether to get an electric (under)blanket for the bed, or a heated blanket. For those who use them in bed, do you put them under the duvet? How long do they retain heat after you switch them off?

Xiaoxiong · 13/11/2024 22:59

I love ours. Always more efficient to heat the person than to heat the air, so wrapping yourself in a heated blanket is so much better than turning the heating up!

Wait till you find out about heated gilets

XenoBitch · 13/11/2024 23:04

I have a heated throw that I have been using in bed. Because it is a bit fluffy, it traps the heat for ages after it turns off. My dog loves it too, and wont budge when it is on.

Yes, they're ok to go in the machine. I've done it myself loads of times.

I should add that they have washing instructions on the label saying it's ok. It's not me just bunging it in and risking for a biscuit.

I believe they're ok to tumble dry too but that's a bridge too far for me.

KarmenPQZ · 14/11/2024 11:12

I’m getting myself one this winter for WFH. I feel I’m going to massively hate myself for not getting one years ago! Although I didn not realise they could go in the washing machine - stupidly just assumed not so this makes they massively more appealing!

@EveryDayisFriday talk to me more about your shacket. I basically live in a dressing gown at home and this sounds perfect. Can you post a link?

We have a heated underblanket. We have it on a timer, so if we go to be particularly late then it will have gone off. But even an hour later the bed will feel noticeably warmer than if it hadn't on, provided the duvet has been pulled up. If we forgot and the bed was still airing then all the benefit goes very quickly. If I get into the bed when it is warm, then I will stay warm once the blanket goes off.

We have electric blankets on all our beds and two electric heated throws in the lounge ( big old house - central heating costs a fortune to run) We turn on the blankets and an electric fan heater to take chill from air before bed time We use heated throws and a wood burner in the lounge when it's just DH and I at home in the evening. The kitchen has a range which heats the water and is on all the time so it's toastie too.
We are going to install solar power and electric underfloor heating in the bathrooms. The secret to being warm in an old country house is multiple heating solutions rather than spending a fortune on oil to heat a house you only use 20% of

thank you. Ideally I’d have an electric blanket for the bed and a heated throw for the rest of the house, but I have so many expenses coming up I can’t justify both!

At the moment I’m going to bed with a hot water bottle, freezing cold (I don’t warm up naturally in bed like other people seem to, I get progressively colder and can’t sleep), then wake up about 2am drenched in sweat because I’ve had the water bottle on me the whole time. I need something that cools down gradually.

I love the red Lakeland one. So tempting.

You might find a silk sleeping bag or a silk sheet over you helps. It's only a light layer, but the silk material helps seal in your body heat.

That's if you're not opposed to silk, of course.

Thank you. The labels on mine all say wash at 40. Id assumed it meant "wipe with a damp cloth" even though it's hot the wash label on. I will investigate!

It's definitely always been ok for me.

It is a bit scary washing something with wires and an electrical connection but somehow it doesn't affect it.

CurlewKate · 14/11/2024 12:09

My son-who is an absolutely inspired present giver-gave me one for Christmas last year. It's my favorite thing. Only downside, my cats regard it as the work of the devil and won't cuddle up when it's on.....

There are different types, and I have both! Heated under blankets for the bed are the traditional ones, the ones referenced here are the heated throws and they are a revelation. They are soft fleecy blankets like normal throws with very fine wires running through them that you barely feel. you do have to plug them in, but the cords are long. I use one for when I'm WFH and rarely have the heating on during the day. You can also put them in the washing machine. I got mine last winter from Amazon. Its massive and was £35. You cant use the throws under blankets, but you can use it on top. If it is really cold you can have your heated underblanket in bed and your throw on top and it is luxury! Only done this once as rarely needed but I am in a modern home. Do it you wont regret it.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 14/11/2024 12:38

I bought two heated throws last year. They were brilliant for the two months they worked.

lavenderandlemon · 14/11/2024 13:18

People that have heat pads for their chairs or back/neck problems, can I ask for recommendations? Love my heated throw but could do with something like that for my bad back too.

I use this one every day https://amzn.eu/d/5I4JAxl

I have another one but it doesn’t get as hot, and it only has three heat settings.

I got mine from Lidl middle aisle last year but there are similar on Amazon.
