To not change from a gas hob to conduction

TangerineDr3am · 10/11/2024 18:07

Potentially having a new kitchen and currently have gas. An induction hob would be more expensive, involve the added expense of a new fuse box and potentially be trickier to use but would be cleaner. Will we regret not changing to conduction further down the line?

Watching with interest.

Pinknotpurple · 10/11/2024 18:11

I love mine, also much safer with the kids around. I wouldn't go back to gas.

HappyHealthy23 · 10/11/2024 18:11

I just read an article this morning about how polluting gas cookers can be and how they can affect your health. (I'll share it if you like, but it's in French.) We decided to switch to induction when we got our kitchen redone, and I'm glad I did now.

Assuming you mean induction hob? Why would you have to have a new fuse box? You can have them just plugged in to an existing socket. They're not tricky to use. Why do you think it would be? And, they are infinitely easier to keep clean than a gas hob.

RuffledKestrel · 10/11/2024 18:15

I find decent induction hobs to be just as responsive as gas hobs when cooking, but without the total annoyance of removing all the bits to clean them. A wipe down after cooking is all that is needed to keep an induction hob clean.
Around kids they are much safer as I think all now come with a lock function, so they cannot be accidentally turned on. Unlike gas which you just turn the knob usually.
Pots - yes induction can be a pickier with what hobs they will work with, but in my experience the pots stay looking great for much longer than when I had a gas hob.

I'd never go back to a gas hob now.

Induction hob is epic. I wouldn't go back to gas

But you nay need to buy new saucepans ie stainless steel or cast iron

bumblefeline · 10/11/2024 18:18

Love my induction hob. Not noticed much difference from gas.

SauvignonBlonk · 10/11/2024 18:20

I’ve never liked gas, the pans are too wobbly on top of one for my liking.
Currently got induction- I far prefer being just able to wipe the top and that’s the end of the cleaning process.

Bellaboot · 10/11/2024 18:22

Not even a contest, induction all the way. I've sadly had to go back to gas with our house move, can't wait to do the kitchen up and go back to induction.

They take more power and all the kitchen fitter quotes we’ve had say we’d need a new fuse box for induction. We have an old plastic one- talking an extra £800. Gulp!

We have an induction hob, chosen to reduce the amount of indoor air pollution and the ease of cleaning it after use.

TangerineDr3am · 10/11/2024 18:26

We need a bigger hob and the bigger ones are pricier. Worried about cracking it with heavy pans too.

I love my induction hob. Was a gas fundamentalist then switched to induction. So much safer and better.

HappyMuma · 10/11/2024 18:27

I thought I’d always have gas but when we did the kitchen we went with an induction hob. It’s easier to clean, safer with the kids around and everything seems to warm up quicker.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 10/11/2024 18:27

Another induction fan here. Would never go back to gas.

MarketValveForks · 10/11/2024 18:27

I can't stand cooking on induction hobs. Gas all the way for me. I cook on Induction in holiday homes and when staying with family. Every single time there's a problem where either there's a spill on the bit of surface that has the controls on it, or my hands are sticky (because I'm cooking surprise surprise) and I can't make the blasted controls do what I need them to.

Bogginsthe3rd · 10/11/2024 18:28

Induction are just awful. Use more energy, worse for the environment and can destroy pans. Please don't. You'll regret it.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 10/11/2024 18:29

I was facing the same decision a few years ago when we did our kitchen. Decided to move to induction and never regretted it (and I loved cooking on gas).

happinessisnotapossession · 10/11/2024 18:30

I had a few quotes that all said I needed a new fuse box. Then a guy came in and without even looking, asked if anyone had conned me into getting a new fuse box yet, says it's a common trick.

DocileWimps · 10/11/2024 18:30

I don't know why anyone would prefer gas. Induction is safer, cleaner and easier to use.

Why are kitchen fitters going to con you into calling an electrician to change a fuse box? The appliances stores have all warned us we’d need a new fuse box too-the older plastic ones won’t be enough.

None of that is true whatsoever!

Changed from gas to induction last year - never going back, thought I'd regret it but completely the opposite.

There is no benefit whatsoever, health, efficiency, function or otherwise - gas will be a relic of the past soon enough

Someone has been inducted into denial about a bad choice !

AgentJohnson · 10/11/2024 18:34

Induction hobs are safer, energy efficient and easier to keep clean. I personally think they are more responsive than gas and water boils faster on an induction hob. As soon as anything boils over the hob turns itself off. My only regret is not getting one sooner. The timer function has meant I haven’t burnt rice since 2016. Mine did require an extra group in the meter cupboard but that wasn’t such a big deal.

I’ve got my eye on an induction wok burner for XMAS.

Induction is the future!!!!!
