Intended to be light hearted! Some are obvious like politics - what other things secretly make you roll your eyes when they're bought up at say, a dinner party? I hate hearing detailed descriptions of people's holidays lol. I like to hear if somewhere is nice but not a whole two week itinerary! I think my friends husband wants to tell me shut up already when I talk about pilates lol, what are yours?

When someone says they were watching such and such tv show/soap last night and ask if you watch it. You say no, and they suddenly start telling you what happened with x y and z in the latest episode.

When I had hyperemesis, it was food. I was amazed (and disgusted) by how often the subject came up.

Oh god yes this...infuriating!

ponams · 09/11/2024 00:23

Asking people what they do for job. Very dull and I'm just not interested in talking about it or hearing about it.

Berlinlover · 09/11/2024 00:27

Anything whatsoever to do with Covid. I can tolerate anything else under the sun.

Any form of toxic positivity/manifesting/dream boards. These people never seem to get the hint that I’ve switched off and seem desperate to convince me that just thinking about something desirable makes it happen.

Oh god yes it is so dull. And they have never actually manifested anything themselves either, they just think they might in the future.

The Manifesting A Husband ones are the worst - it is like being trapped in a lift with the “Looking for a man in finance, 6’5, trust fund, blue eyes” woman.

Meamie · 09/11/2024 00:46

Politics and blow by blow accounts of films/tv series they’ve watched but you haven’t, because you’ve no interest in it

hellywelly3 · 09/11/2024 00:52

When people talk and talk about something they know nothing about. It could be something you are a specialist in and they still insist on talking at you about it.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 09/11/2024 00:54

House prices, usually by some smug idiot who bought with the help of mum and dad in the early 2000s and can't figure out why anyone else isn't so lucky.

coxesorangepippin · 09/11/2024 01:44

Came on to say politics

Ugh

  • People who insist on telling you (in detail) the plot of a film they have seen, especially when you have just told them it's not the sort of film you are interested in watching (and they seem to think telling you the boring details will make you change your mind).
  • People who think their medical history, visits to A&E and conversations with doctors about their tedious ailments are fascinating.

Haha, you just reminded me of a woman I used to go to for facials… she was honestly the best I’ve ever found, my skin looked amazing but I had to stop seeing her because of her TV/film chat! I would say, politely, “ah I’m not into sci-fi” and she would go on (and on and on) about whatever sci-fi film or tv series she’d just seen. And she was obsessed with Peaky Blinders. I said “yeah, I’ve seen it, but didn’t continue, not really my thing”, but she’d ignore me and tell me all about it anyway. I was seeing her regularly and I cancelled one day when I realised I’d rather go to the dentist than see her - was such a relief!

Immigrants. People who are racist/ borderline racist seem to find a way to slip immigrants into the most innocuous unrelated conversation. It happens all the bloody time these days and then I then I have to speak up and the conversation becomes difficult.
I am very happy to have a debate in the right circumstances but when it is simply a fleeting contact like somebody I don’t know and will never meet again delivering my groceries my heart sinks because I will probably achieve nothing except stressing myself out but I can’t let it slide.

BeatsAntique · 09/11/2024 03:42

I always mentally switch off around fitness/diet bores (runners and cyclists are especially tedious). No one cares about your macros.

My Room 101 (ages self immediately) conversation topics other than that are anything to do with medical issues, sport and long-winded minutiae about people I don’t know, includes celebrities.

I love talking about politics, ethics, current affairs, food, travel, feminism, kids, education, environmental issues, urban planning and city design (my nerd subject), music, homes, arts, film, history…so there’s plenty left!

Pumpkincozynights · 09/11/2024 06:27

Their dog. I’m not interested.

GreyRockinRock · 09/11/2024 08:19

All this makes me very happy to be a loner 😂😂😂😂

Hereforaglance · 09/11/2024 08:37

Finances. I work for a small financial firm & a lot of family & people I mix with are clients. As soon as they start I have to claim up so I don't let anything slip.

The hardest part is when people are talking about others' finances & are way off the mark. Like DM banging on about how brilliant & well off DB is & how poor DH & I are in comparison. I nearly choked because it's literally the opposite..... But can't say anything!

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 09/11/2024 08:51

Pet bores are definitely up there. The odd comment or a quickly-flashed photo on their phone is fine, but when they blether on about their cat doing mundane cat things and show you endless pictures - expecting an enthusiastic reaction to each one - when it's just sitting there on a chair or something; it's not like it's riding a tiny motorbike up a steep ramp and through a blazing hoop of fire!!

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 09/11/2024 09:14

People who wang on and on about topics like Trump, the Conservatives, Brexit etc. - obviously controversial topics; but when they go on fervently with the apparent assumption that those who disagree with them must be a tiny minority of fringe extremists - even when many millions or even half (or more) of the country in question voted for it.

CottonbudQueen · 09/11/2024 09:37

I absolutely love talking about all 3 of my labours. I'm sure this is a major hate from many people ( of course, those TTC) 😔 I hate people talking incessantly about themselves, their kids and not once do they ask you... what do you and what do your children do. Why do some people think others are interested in their lives.

Tink3rbell30 · 09/11/2024 11:54

Birth stories!! Nobody cares. This is worse than pet talk.

Vettrianofan · 09/11/2024 12:24

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 08/11/2024 21:02

The main thing I hate is when people tell a mundane story and reference people you've never met and will never meet. "Oh I was at Jane's house for a cup of tea and then met up for lunch with Lorraine who I worked with at blah blah blah"

I honestly do not give a fuck!

DH complains when I do this very thing🤣

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 09/11/2024 12:46

I have a disability, very clear to see, it’s not rocket science.
When people drone on about benefit cheats and disability fraudsters, which are 99 per cent of those who claim by the way, when I interrupt I get the same answer EVERY TIME….
Oh I didn’t mean you! You are a very honest and deserving person. I just mean all of the others.
It drives me NUTS!

I’m far too old for new feminism and the Barbie film was bunk.
