Parking....again!!

Hi, I've raised this a couple of times before but it's still an ongoing problem.
Previously, neighbours were parking on the path outside our gate, blocking our access. Well finally they've stopped doing it after we've had severe words with them. Had a couple of blissful weeks where we could actually get through our gate.
However, someone from a couple of streets away has now decided that THEY want to park on the path. I'm presuming their street is difficult to park in or they think their car will be safer in our estate. So in the last few days they've done exactly the same thing as the neighbour except they now also park on the dropped kerb at the end of the path (not our dropped kerb) when they can't get directly outside ours. They've don't this tonight and there's at least 10 parking spaces further down but they've still parked partly on the path blocking our gate and partly on the dropped kerb. I'm fuming and to make matters worse, one of our friends has started using a wheelchair and has not been able to visit us as they can't get through the gate or even to the top of the path to the dropped kerb...how do I stop this????

Cars that park on the pavement tend to get damaged sometimes......

Just saying

I honestly thought about that but I've no idea how the car owner would react!!

Diagram required

could you install a penguin bollard to prevent your gate being blocked

Apart from being tongue in cheek, it is a bit of a risk. I've seen people (bike riders etc,) being careless as they shove past.

How's the owner likely to know 🤷

Can you put a sign in the gate saying “wheelchair access required at all times, do not block”

dementedpixie · 06/11/2024 20:50

Put a note on the car telling them not to block the path/gate/dropped kerb

whatatodoaboutnothing · 06/11/2024 20:52

I wonder if a setting up a security motion light and having a camera (could be fake) plus signs to say access required at all times etc might make the point?

looks like lazy parking but perhaps they have missed the gate. Not excusing them but if you make it super obvious that gate access is required

id also door knock to say we need to get our wheelchair through and need you to move your car if it’s the same person

you could ask the council about double yellow tops

dementedpixie · 06/11/2024 20:53

Do you have a dropped kerb?
Is it your car you can't get through the gate or people?

It's people and now our friend in a wheelchair and its even harder for them

Can you leave a note on windscreen? Wheelchair access required. Please stop blocking our gate.

Thanks, I believe they actually live closer to the empty parking spaces so it's further for them to walk to park outside ours...im.not sure where they live 100% but it's a few streets away. I've never seen them before so thinking they've just moved there

Tooshyshy123 · 06/11/2024 21:06

I've thought about notes and signs but because I don't know them and think they've just moved to the area,I don't know how they'll react and I'm a bit of a scardy cat

How else will they know they're causing an obstruction?

Shouldn't they know anyway if they're parking on a path blocking a gate or parking on a dropped kerb?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 06/11/2024 21:14

Maybe they are just idiots!
If they continue doing it then you need to be proactive at letting them know its an issue as they won't stop doing it otherwise

Tooshyshy123 · 06/11/2024 21:15

Anyway just a quick update...my friend in the wheelchair has just phoned and suggested that I take some pics of the car, where it's parked etc and email them to the police ..might be worth a try and she's given me permission give the police her details too so she can explain how it's impacting her

Yes and they don’t care so you need to tell them one way or another

or hope they come across this thread

How big is the place you live in? Is it a village? If so, any possibility this new person is a friend of the original "offender"?

12345onceIcaughta · 06/11/2024 21:32

Too scared to put a note on the car?
nothing you can do then is there

Just leave a note, they might not even realise. I parked in the middle of the night in a huge rainstorm in a rural area with no streetlights when visiting family, and managed to block a little gate set back into a huge hedge that I honestly didn't notice.

Came back the next morning when the sun was brightly shining to find the gate I blocked was very obvious. There was a note on the car which was super embarrassing! I pushed a note through their letter box apologising and saying I hadn't even realised in the dark how badly I'd parked and wouldn't do it again. (And I never have, as I've not been back that way since.)

Itdoesntendwellatall · 06/11/2024 22:03

Have your friend visit and get blocked in with her wheelchair. Then call the police. They should come and sort it but you might have to wait a while.

Get a wheelchair access sign.

VegTrug · 06/11/2024 22:27

@Tooshyshy123 The police will not be interested in a blocked gate ffs! Come on. They don't even come out to break ins anymore
