AIBU to think that 12-13 hours is (on the spectrum of) normal?

Not enough as she won’t go to sleep at the moment! Mine needs around 12 hours sleep a night and she is the oldest in the class. I think some of her classmates only do 10 to 11 a night.

Wibblywobblybobbly · 06/11/2024 07:04

11 to 12

NotThoseKindOfEggs · 06/11/2024 07:05

Usually 11 hours, sleeps straight through the night so hopefully good quality sleep.

Ftctvycdul · 06/11/2024 07:06

My daughter goes to sleep between 8-9 and has to get up at 7. She wakes up by herself in the summer but I’m having to wake her now it’s dark in a morning,

NeedSomeComfy · 06/11/2024 07:10

Sounds on the longer side but still on the normal spectrum. Mine sleeps around 11 hours although longer at the moment because she's recovering from a cold.

Algebraicyourleg · 06/11/2024 07:12

Mine have around 11hours, they go to bed around 7ish (6.50-7.30 usually depending on activities) and then they typically wake between 5.45 and 6.30am.

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 06/11/2024 07:13

Mine went to bed at 7, got up at 7:30-8. He now (y1) goes up at about 7, watches a bit of YouTube until about 7:30 and gets up around 7:30. The clocks changing have sent his pattern a bit wild and also we went abroad at half term, so he was on Turkey time for a week or so…. Was getting up at 5:30-6 for a few days but that’s settled now. At weekends he still asks to go up at around 7 but doesn’t usually get up until 9-10 (if we leave him in bed!).

GailTheSnail · 06/11/2024 07:14

10 hours but I think that's unusual and he's never been a big sleeper no matter what we did to encourage it. His year 3 sister sleeps longer

DinosaurMunch · 06/11/2024 07:14

Yes mine was asleep by 6.30 or 7 having to be woken at 7.30 or 8 at that stage. Now in year 1 and sleeps 12 ish hours. The first term of reception did seem exceptionally tiring - it wasn't so bad after Christmas

I think it depends on the child as to how good they are at sleeping. My older one sleeps more hours and is less tired in the day - always in a good mood. My younger one wakes earlier but is often very tired later in the day, gets upset and grumpy, so I'd say they both need the same sleep but one is better at getting it!

Overthebow · 06/11/2024 07:15

About 11 hours.

UpUpUpU · 06/11/2024 07:16

11-12 hours for my son. He’s year 2 now and still needs 11 but at least half the week he sleeps for 12

PurpleThistle7 · 06/11/2024 07:22

My son (8) doesn't seem to need as much as others - usually sleeps maybe 9-10 hours. My daughter slept more at his age though

Girasoli · 06/11/2024 07:23

Usually 10 - falls asleep between half 7 and half 8 and gets up at 6 (or 6.30 occasionally).
He's definitely a lark.

Saschka · 06/11/2024 07:25

Sounds perfectly normal - mine used to sleep from 8pm-8am.

Hugmorecats · 06/11/2024 07:28

9-10, but suspect autism (which in both my kids seems to cause hyperness and less sleepiness)

Completelyjo · 06/11/2024 07:29

13 hours is very much on the high end of normal.

ValentinesDayCryingInTheHotel · 06/11/2024 07:32

My nearly 5 year old sleeps 11 hours on average but I know her cousin (6 months younger) sleeps waaaay longer sometimes. She always slept better than my kid!

mine now sleeps about 7.30-6.30

give or take…

Allthebrightplaces · 06/11/2024 07:43

Yr1 DD goes to sleep about 8 (cannot get her to sleep earlier unless ill) and wakes with me around 6-6.30am. She might sleep in a little longer on the weekends.

JumpstartMondays · 06/11/2024 07:44

About 11.5

TickingAlongNicely · 06/11/2024 07:48

It was about 11 hours. Had to be up at 6am for school, bed time around 7pm.

Threelittleduck · 06/11/2024 07:48

12 hours usually. On the weekend he'll sleep even longer though. He is one of the youngest and (despite doing much longer days at nursery) is exhausted by school. He doesn't even do full days yet either.

Danikm151 · 06/11/2024 07:52

9/10 hours he’s up with the lark though and it’s exhausting

ConfusedMummy12 · 08/11/2024 10:32

thank you very much !

Bellaphant · 08/11/2024 10:40

Ours are probably less: asleep 8:30 (ish, aim is I bed by 8) up at 7. I think that's on the low side though. They actually wake up earlier on the weekend....

MrsSunshine2b · 08/11/2024 10:47

About 11 hours ish, she's asleep by 9pm most nights and up at 8am.
