Women’s loo queues- what’s going on??

SanctusInDistress · 05/11/2024 15:25

I’m in my 50s, so I have plenty of experience using the women’s public lavatories. In the past 5 years, I’ve noticed that the queues are out of this world. And not just in tbe UK. Everywhere I go, the women’s queues are always super long and move very slowly.

is it that people now use their phone whilst in there? A pee and a quick browse?

ladies, what’s going on?! Are our bladders and rectums getting bigger so it takes more time to discharge, or are we using public loos to catch up on our social media when out and about?

is it just me who has noticed this? I don’t go any more often than when I was in my 30s.

Am I being unreasonable for thinking that women’s lav queues are getting ridiculous?

Depending where you go
We went last week to just browse in the pretty random town of Midhurst. All public toilets were deserted and I am someone who pees couple of times per hour

Agree with this.

I think some women must just really like the ambience?

The smell of warm dehydrated vag?

Deathraystare · 05/11/2024 17:42

I sometimes take a time because I have bladder problems. Sometimes I dribble and dribble and dribble. I just get off the pot and it comes again!

Makingchocolatecake · 05/11/2024 16:06

If you cannot hold it and really need to go why not? If no one else is waiting for it it's just an empty toilet doing nothing. Seen plenty of people use them when queues are really long.

Please don’t. One of the reasons I need to use the disabled loos if often due to unpredictable urgency.

Haggia · 05/11/2024 17:47

Not guilty OP.

I’d have to be chronically unwell to “discharge my rectum” in a cinema or theatre loo 😂

purplecorkheart · 05/11/2024 17:48

Double Voiding, many women are being advised by their Doctors to double void. Also more and more places are reducing the number of toilets they have or not cleaning then regularly so some are unusable.

The smell of warm dehydrated vag?

To be fair, that's quite a niche like. Where else will they find it other than public toilets!

I think there's a portal in the cubicles to a nice fancy spa type place. It's just some of us weren't given the memo.

lanthanum · 05/11/2024 15:31

There have always been longer queues for the ladies' toilets, haven't there?

Two other possible contributory factors to increased demand:

  • the water bottle culture - we didn't used to all carry water bottles everywhere, and would often drink only at mealtimes
  • better/cleaner public toilets - some used to be so bad that you tried to make sure you wouldn't need to use them!

This, from the first page.

And of course, due to money many of the doors do not shut!

I do wonder what happens in unisex loos with men queuing. We all know they 'don;t queue'. I reckon they just barge in.

They take their turn. The difference is the length of time they spend in there.

TheBirdintheCave · 05/11/2024 17:52

Kombuchamonster · 05/11/2024 15:41

It's a quicker process for men, surely. They just whip it out of their flies then pop it back in. No need to go into a cubicle, faff around with tucking themselves back in, doing up poppers, pulling up tights etc, not to mention dealing with tampons / pads etc etc. Also half of them don't was their hands either.

And yes, proportionately less loos for women.

Yes, exactly my thoughts.

MereDintofPandiculation · 05/11/2024 17:12

If you are capable of holding it (which most people are), then you should. But she actually said "If you cannot hold it and really need to go why not?" So you're talking about a different situation.

Personally, as an adult, I have never actually been in a situation where I actually cannot physically hold it whilst I wait in a queue. In that case you are lucky. Not all adult women are that lucky.

Most people's version of "I'm desperate/ I'm bursting/ I really need to go" is not the same as someone who is actually incontinent or has a disability like Crohn's disease.

My husband has Crohn's disease and my eyes are open to so much that I wasn't even aware of before, including the genuine need for disabled toilets.

As I said, if you are about to s* your pants then of course. If you read my post properly then you would have seen that.

Most people who say they are desperate don't actually know what incontinence is like.

IceCreamCookies · 05/11/2024 17:59

It's a more finicky process for women.
Men can just walk up to a urinal and whip it out, women you have to get yourself seated, assuming you're not one of those women that lines the seat in loo roll.. Then psych yourself up to pee while there's a line of women staring down your door. 😂
Then there's the faffing about with your clothes/tights/belt and sorting your clothing. If you're on your period you might need to change your pad/tampon.
A lot of women have continence issues epecially after having a baby = more women using the toilet.

IcedPurple · 05/11/2024 18:03

I thought I was the only one bewildered at how long some women need in the cubicle. Yes,I know there are situations that require more than a simple 'in and out', but that's not most of the time. The length of time some spend in there can be very annoying, especially when they know there is a long queue outside.

I've not noticed it getting any worse recently however. It's always been an issue.

Randomsabreur · 05/11/2024 18:20

It's also likely that most women using the toilet when 'out' aren't those who can do a quick in and out because if the "plumbing" is in a good state it's easier to wait to get home...

I need the toilet way more often when I'm on my period, so I'm more likely to need to go away from home if on my period and that is never a quick in and out job...

Ap42 · 05/11/2024 18:22

passiveaggressivenonsense · 05/11/2024 15:53

If I'm desperate I go in the men's.

Me too! So often their completely empty!

DrNo007 · 05/11/2024 18:25

Recently I was waiting ages for one of two occupied loos to become available. Turned out the friend of the two loo users was in the queue ahead of me. After a few minutes she rapped on the doors and told them to hurry up, then turned to me and muttered, ‘they’re on TikTok’. Just why would anyone go into a loo cubicle and go on TikTok? She didn’t get it and neither do I.

Chronicallyknackered · 05/11/2024 18:25

Makingchocolatecake · 05/11/2024 15:43

Just use the disabled ones (or the mens?!!)

Please don't. They are rare. Disabled individuals/ people with continence needs require them

coffeeandteav · 05/11/2024 18:46

A lot of people just faff. My friend and I go to the toilet on a work break. We are in and out the other cubicles take ages. I think some people are just more faffy.

Princessfluffy · 05/11/2024 18:56

I've tried using the men's but OMG yuk.

What is double voiding?!

What about the aging population? Older people tend to visit the toilet more often

What is double voiding?!

It’s when you empty your bladder as normal. Wait 30 seconds, lean forward and pee again. Not every person can empty their bladder in one go

Everydayimhuffling · 05/11/2024 19:15

The problem is that all buildings are designed with parity of space for men and women's toilets, when it should be parity of places to pee instead. If I was dictator for the day it would be my first change.

Not necessarily. Some of my 60 something friends are like camels whereas I’ve been in and out of the loo every five minutes since my teens.

I think it's part of the problem but I think the other part of the problem is women who are really selfish and can't see that there's a bloody big queue and maybe they could just speed up a bit
