Uggs

To me these just bring back memories of being ‘in’ 15 or so years ago, or in more recent years only being worn (a replica version) tucked into pyjama bottoms by people who find it acceptable to be in pyjamas outdoors.

My child has announced they are very much back in vogue and she would like some for Christmas. After I recoiled in horror, I thought I’d ask whether they actually are, and I’m just hideously outdated?

In case it’s not obvious, tongue is largely in cheek. But I do want to know whether they’re back in style!

I’ve had a few pairs since 2009. My current ones are about 6 years old now so I’m definitely due a new pair. Delighted to hear they are still in fashion. So comfy!

Verv · 05/11/2024 14:52

Yeah theyre in, although in my case theyve never been out! :)
They are all i wear in winter.

Jaxhog · 05/11/2024 15:12

I bought this style earlier this year - I'm in fashion again!
Very comfy.

Elaine1011 · 05/11/2024 15:21

I think they are so ugly, the boot ones a little less so than the shoes. Also the sheep skin aspect is a bit grim.

If you get past the look of them, (each to their own,) they aren't very good for your feet. I wouldn't encourage your kids to wear them too often.

I was going to ask the same question about whether they are "in" or not.

I'm 47 and asked my dh to buy me a pair for Christmas and he laughed saying did you not wear these when we met like 20 yrs ago.
Yes I did and I still want them 😀

mitogoshigg · 05/11/2024 15:32

Dd wears them to the shops

RoddyJaneandFreddy · 05/11/2024 15:34

I have been wearing them non stop since 2007. My current pair are a dark violet colour and I love them. Always getting compliments from strangers on the colour as well.

Jayne35 · 05/11/2024 15:36

I have had a pair for years, biker type with side zips in dark brown, not like the classic Uggs, they are so comfy, and warm. For the record I have never worn PJ's outside the house 🙂

Dweetfidilove · 05/11/2024 15:42

Low top platform Uggs are very much intact (unfortunately).

I remember the horrors as you do so won't go near them but my daughter and her friends go gaga for them.

OutVileJelly1 · 05/11/2024 15:57

I never thought these looked good even 15 years back

If you wear leather, surely sheepskin isn't so much of a stretch, and a lot of shoes aren't good for your feet.

CoastalCalm · 05/11/2024 16:15

I don’t have a pair as I have size 9 feet and they fit very small

Iamblossom · 05/11/2024 16:16

I just bought these

I have two pairs of slimline Kirstin Ugg boots which I bought 5 years ago. They no longer produce them, probably because they weren't sloppy and don't look like traditional Uggs. They have lasted brilliantly with continuous use in the winter and yes, ibonly wear them outside and to work. The best buy I ever made. Would love to be able to find them again!

I'm wearing some like that right now. Zips up the side, keep my feet so warm while wfh. Nothing else compares 😁

OMG that article says people wear them without socks 😱(vomit)

Nina1013 · 05/11/2024 17:08

Thankfully she has clarified that she wants the ultra mini rather than the ones that look like slippers.

And thank you to everyone for updating my fashion knowledge, I will for the next couple of days at least be considered to ‘get it’ by her 🤣🤣

I wear my classic uggs without socks, with no shame at all. I don’t like the mule style, though: they don’t stay on my feet.

dothehokeycokey · 05/11/2024 18:28

I have ultra minis and tazmans as well as midis and some Chelsea wedge ones and slip ons

They're the most comfiest things I've ever worn.

I wear tazmans for work with an arch support in them all day every day and they're brilliant.

My husband also thinks I look like I'm wearing slippers out but I don't mind that Grin

Elaine1011 · 05/11/2024 19:20

@Falalalalah personally, I feel the same about leather. Lots of people are more speciesist though. And there were a lot of awful practises in how they used to get that sheepskin which I was shocked at when they were first popular and I wouldn't forget that. Just
my opinion though I'm aware others aren't bothered.
As for other shoes being bad for your feet I'm aware of that too but don't lots of people seem to wear Uggs forever, especially teens. And worst offenders are the people who get the wrong size to begin with then wear them til the arse falls out round here.

Superhansrantowindsor · 05/11/2024 19:23

In the north of England about 40 years ago, when the weather got cold, all the grandmas would wear a fleece lined ankle boot with central zip. Uggs always remind me of them.

Berlinlover · 05/11/2024 19:26

I wasn’t aware they ever went out of fashion.

Patienceinshortsupply · 05/11/2024 19:29

I've got a pair of khaki mini boots that I wear as slippers, absolutely love them and putting them on is the first thing I do when I get home at night.

This thread has reminded to look for a pair for work!

sangriaandsunshine · 05/11/2024 19:32

Yes they are very much in. I am seriously pissed off. I couldn't afford them last time they were in although I longed for them. Finally in a position to afford them so tried them on the other day only to find that my feet are too wide. Teen DD then tried them on and it was like Cinderella. So she now wants them for Christmas. Other than my own bitterness, I haven't come up with a reason why she can't have them yet
