To be annoyed my neighbour came into my flat uninvited and asked about my rent?

I just moved into a new flat on Friday. The door was open because the movers were going in and out, and I was packing up one last box before we left. Out of nowhere, a neighbour I’d never spoken to before just walked into my flat, started looking around, and then asked how much I paid for it!

I was polite but firm and told her to leave and maybe consider having some manners.

AIBU to think this was way out of line? I get being curious, but barging into someone’s home and asking about rent feels like a massive boundary to cross. Has anyone else dealt with neighbours like this, or am I overreacting?

Those who wouldn't be bothered... It is possible that she was scoping lock security for a break-in for the next tenant, is that OK? Or trying to grab a handbag/ mobile phone left on the side by busy moving tenant; is that OK? She might have traipsed mud/poo in that OP would need to clean before leaving, is that OK? She might have slipped over and tried to sue the OP or landlord...
There are all sorts of reasons why we don't have randoms roam round our homes, those don't all disappear because someone is moving. The landlord still owns the property and OP still had responsibility over it. So no, perfectly reasonable to say a random woman isn't too just march in demanding financial info.

I’m all for exercising reasonable caution but I would be exhausted if I spent my days worrying all randoms were potential thieving, litigious, poo transferring burglars.

I think telling her to "perhaps have some manners" doesn't fall within the boundaries of "polite but firm" and may cause you problems in the future.

Ah, I've now seen this was possibly in the flat you were moving out of, so matching her rudeness isn't a problem for the future, just not a dignified way to behave.

Ah, you've never lived in a bigger city. Nobody is "exhausted", nor "worrying", it's just recognition that opportunist thieves come in all shapes and sizes, and there's no need to make it too easy for them to take your stuff. When you've had your phone nicked by a chancer, let me know why you're still super cool with it.

So silly when people make statements about what other posters have or have not done despite knowing nothing about them! how could you possibly know where I have lived 🤣

I don't think this would bother me too much. I probably would have just answered her.
