To think kids simulating a violent crime isn’t family fun?

Increasingly I’m seeing young children dressed as if they have been murdered, sexually assaulted or are a violent criminal for Halloween. I don’t see what is good family fun about glorifying violence. One of my children is adopted and increasingly we can’t go anywhere at half term as violent scenes trigger their PTSD. Even family attractions aimed at young children seem to think it’s fine to display really scary images.

It's meant to be surprising that such things occur in areas with houses worth 500k 🙄

It's just an average Essex village house price. Not sure why you're getting your knickers in a twist.

I dressed my 1yo as Chuckie one year, she had no clue what she wanted to dress as so I chose 🤷 from 2+ she's been a witch, a bat, a spider etc. I don't think it's that bad really, it's a fictional doll

What’s the relevance?!

Someone asked me where were these places where children were dressed up like this, so I answered - in other words 'an average Essex village' Hopefully this explanation is now clearer for you to understand.
Btw, I've looked you up and you're pretty much a troll - you never have anything kind, interesting or helpful to contribute so goodbye.

I remember fake blood as a dc but defo think some costumes are inappropriate these days. We had some young girls in Harley Quinn outfits & I did think they are a bit young for that look.

Mlanket · 03/11/2024 23:18

@LordEmsworth wtf!

RangerDanger · 03/11/2024 23:37

It's probably my least favourite holiday for this reason. My Facebook is plastered with people putting their 3 and 4 year olds in costumes of characters from 18-rated horror movies. Chucky, Pennywise etc.

I'm obviously just a killjoy but I think Halloween for kids should be cat ears and tails made of tights and witches hats and plastic fake fingernails.

For adult parties fair enough, be scary, but I've just been chastised by SIL this year for not bringing my almost 2 year old to her Halloween party full of adults dressed up in frightening costumes because he would be scared. She said "how else will he get used to it?"

It's not even just the scare factor. Werewolves or monsters could look scary for kids if they like that. But blood and serial killers? It's just not for me.

Bring on bloody Christmas.

If you felt it was insignificant to your point you wouldn't have mentioned it. It was classicism pure and simple.

Yes. My sons PRIMARY school held a pumpkin competition. The winner, the actual winner posted allover their website was of a ‘dead’ baby doll covered in blood and nails inside a pumpkin 😳😳😳

I would complain. Shocking that this was permitted.

I had no idea the grim reaper would be an offensive costume!

No one ever had issues with cute little boys dressed as dracula. You know, that infamous killer who murders virgins and drains them of their blood.

We did Dracula the year before, when he was two 😁

T4phage · 04/11/2024 14:01

Christianity teaches that these elements of life are to be rejected. People don't take any notice and believe it's not harmful, but this is the result. It'll get worse year upon year.

I'm just gutted I missed the opportunity to do Chucky when my son was small enough to pull it off

I find Christianity to be quite pro death, if anything.

And quite unfriendly to women.

YANBU. Even parents of very young children seem to be leaning into the gruesome / gross out side of things. I see so many kids in costumes of characters from films and tv shows they definitely haven’t watched and don’t have an interest in themselves.

We went to a ‘family fun’ event at a farm recently to pick pumpkins. When I last went (about 4 years ago) it was a proper pumpkin patch with a nice area made of hay bales where you could take photos and a couple of ‘ghosts’ made from scarecrows wearing bedsheets. When we went this year there was a muddy field where a whole load of pre-picked pumpkins had been dumped and then endless genuinely gross and terrifying murals / mannequins / employees in costumes etc, all dripping fake blood and playing scream sounds. At an event marketed as suitable for age 3 and up…

Still not a troll, just because I call out BS. But if it makes you feel better fine. Also the irony of your hypocritical posts is rather funny. I won't reply to you anymore, I made my point about your classist attitude, sorry you got so defensive.
