To think this woman was taking the piss?

In a supermarket car park with two DS’s, 2yrs and 11 months. It’s pretty busy (half term round here) and the car in front of me takes the last parent and baby space, leaving me to park in a regular space opposite and squeeze baby and toddler out of the car and into the trolley which outs had to put in the road.

Fair enough I guess, first come first served and all that, until I see the woman getting out of the car with a girl who looks about ready to sit her GCSE’s, who both saunter into the shop.

As it happened, we were both getting back to our cars at the same time, and I asked her if she was aware that she had parked in a parent and baby space. She said she was, but her car is too big for a regular space and she didn’t want it to get scratched. The car in question was a shiny black Jaguar 4x4.

AIBU to think this woman was entitlement personified?

There’s a chance I reminded her that the space is for parents with children, not parents with children and people with big cars, and if she’s so concerned about scratches she needs to learn to park her ridiculous car properly or get something smaller.

@Stormyweatheroutthere

Maybe she had more dc at home....

Absolutely. If you have children at home - or even at their dad's for the weekend - you're completely entitled to park in a ParentAndChild bay.

I mean, my mum, though she never actually comes to Sainsbury's with me, often asks me to pick up a loaf and a pint of milk for her, and she's nearly blind, so I always park in a Disabled slot.

Shes a cf, but i wouldn't go shopping with toddlers etc, get it delivered

Sooo people can be dicks if they want cos people shouldn't shop with their toddlers? Okay then.

If she don't want her car scratched then I suggest she parks at the back of the car park where no one does and waddles her fat a*s to the shop. Entitled cow

this

MumblesParty · 29/10/2024 16:58

I'm baffled at the people implying that anyone who is a parent with a child, regardless of age, can use the P&C spots. That's like me saying I was in a wheelchair for a few weeks after breaking my leg 10 years ago, so I can still park in disabled spots now!

MandyFriend · 29/10/2024 17:02

She sounds like an entitled old bag who can't drive! I've got a 4 x 4 Jaguar which I always manage to park in a regular space!

Mlanket · 29/10/2024 17:02

Why bring your children into the shop just get it delivered

You can’t think of any reason why this might not be a solution? And why is it relevant?

pahahaha

😂

(not laughing at your mum being disabled - just at the thought that some people would think this way!)

She’s a parent with a child using a parent and child space 🤷‍♀️

True, but it's a bit silly isn't it. My dc are 11 and 13, I wouldn't use a parent and child bay. I would leave it for people with babies and toddlers. But that's me trying to be a considerate person, and not only out for myself. The problem is with people like the woman in the OP is she wont care.

Kevinisnotacatname · 29/10/2024 17:11

I will never understand why shops don't have the parent and child parking spaces at the back of the car park, it isn't proximity to the shop that's needed it's space to get your kids out of the car. It doesn't matter the space is being further away and it would mean less cheeky fuckers taking up parents and child spots

Alwaystired23 · 29/10/2024 17:12

JadedCat · 29/10/2024 14:24

When my dear old dad was still alive, I sometimes would take him to the supermarket with me just for a change. He'd stay in the car as he was too frail to walk around the store. Used to park in the parent and child spaces - they don't specify that it’s the parent who has to be driving!

But yes, people who don’t want scratches or dings on their cars should park further away where it's less busy.

Well, that's really selfish. Your dad wasn't even getting out of the car?

Stormyweatheroutthere · 29/10/2024 13:31

Ime she may not be a cf.... I had a 7 seater when I needed it for my 6 dc. I once parked in a non p+c space in a small local supermarket shop. Car was hit quite badly. Said supermarket declined my request to have the reg of the twat who did it. The police also refused to take it further.. So I had to pay my excess and claim on my own insurance... If I had parked in a p+c which I had right to it would have been avoided... Maybe she had more dc at home.... Maybe she had also been unlucky.. And technically she did have a dc with her..

🙄

Parent and child bays are reserved for parents or guardians with one or more children under 12 years old.

While it isn’t illegal to park in a parent and child bay if you don’t have a child under 12 with you, you could be hit with a Parking Charge Notice.

widelegenes · 29/10/2024 15:57

I imagine OP means that she already pays for a Sains delivery and gets most of her groceries that way, but because she wanted a single item from Tesco it was easier and cheaper to go to the store.

Maybe. But for the apparent stress it’s caused 😅

PuddlesPityParty · 29/10/2024 17:17

Nanny0gg · 29/10/2024 16:23

Why would you pay Tesco to deliver a cake?

I assume she was getting more than just the cake for the apparent drama it involved 🙄

LBFseBrom · 29/10/2024 17:18

I couldn't give a flying..., probably wouldn't even have noticed. Maybe she didn't notice where she parked.

Whatever, it's over now and nobody died.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 29/10/2024 17:24

viennawaitsforyouu · 29/10/2024 14:21

Okay, why don’t you just make sure that you buy everything for that week in one shop?

Oh, if only life were so simple 🙄

Gloriia · 29/10/2024 17:34

'No, I prefer to have a word. I spoke firmly but politely to two women in a parent & child space years ago in M&S. Got a mouthful of abuse back. They weren’t laughing though when I reminded them that not everyone will have a polite word. Some will just run a key straight down the side of the expensive car.'

Shock

I've no idea why people get so wound up. P&C spaces are convenient yes if you struggle to get a child in or out but if someone without a dc used one I would not care less. Learn to shrug things off!

BusyTurtle · 29/10/2024 17:36

In my opinion that’s the right thing to do under the circumstances. I once took my SIL to get some shopping. She lives on her own and had broken her foot so had on a cast and was on crutches. I parked in a mother and baby space because I thought that was better than taking a disabled space when I/she didn’t have a blue badge etc. As I was helping SIL out of the car some woman came up having a right go at us for taking the space. We were trying to explain but she was having none of it and shouting at us she didn’t f*cking care she was on crutches, if we didn’t have a child we shouldn’t park there. I mean come on!

I guess it’s also the safety aspect of not having to walk small children (possibly more than one) across a car park. The best thing they can do is build pavements/paths as this is something which is really lacking in most supermarket car parks. At my local Tesco the only pathway is from the row with the mother and baby spaces. If you park anywhere else you have to walk in the road!

So if my mum at 60 goes shopping at me at 35, we can park in the parent and child spaces? Didn't know that!

I live the 'just giver it delivered comments !

Just a heads up to all you down and city dwellers .. we can't even get a fucking pizza delivered.. or a taxi . Let alone a supermarket shop . Do I live in the outer Hebrides ? Or in a lighthouse in Cornwall. ? No. I'm 30 miles from London but very rural and not in a delivery zone that shops find economical to deliver to..

Besides which do none of you EVER run out of something or forget something like a birthday card/pint of milk or loaf of bread that is needed the same day ?

No skin in this game . Mine are all in their 20s.. and drive themselves to the shops. and yes I have a big 4x4 because I love it and I live in a place surrounded by mud and giant potholes.. however I can park it easily in a normal parking space .

You ANBU she is a cheeky fucker and lazy at that . They park in these spots because they can't be arsed to walk far .

Oh see this is flattering. Because you went past my post, read a subsequent one and then went back to respond. Or is it trolling…or jumping on a bandwagon?
