To ask for advice re this rash

I have posted in Children's Health but posting here in the hope of more traffic. My DD is 10 and has had this rash on her inner thigh for about 8 weeks. We've seen two pharmacists and a GP. So far we've tried using Sudocreme, an anti fungal cream and, most recently, a steroid cream on GP prescription. None have done anything and it is not getting better. It is sore and looks awful. It's impacting her life as she is a keen swimmer and dancer. She's spending most of her time sat with her legs apart on the sofa with cream on it and is struggling to get comfy to sleep.
Has anyone seen anything like this before and if so, what did you do to fix it? The GP was fairly useless and the cream prescribed did nothing. I think it's an infection that needs an antibiotic cream at this point but I'd appreciate your advice. I'm intending contacting the GP again on Monday.

By the way, she's fit and well in herself.

could it be a chlorine rash @ilostmyhearttoastarshiptrouper?

Is that shingles?

blueberrypie1999 · 26/10/2024 23:17

Molloscum?

dementedpixie · 26/10/2024 23:37

I agree it could be molluscum
If any get angry and infected then she might need antibiotics. Molluscum itself is viral though and you usually have to let it run it's course which can take months.

Scutterbug · 26/10/2024 23:39

My first thought was molluscum too but it looks infected. Antibiotics will calm it down but unfortunately it take months to go.

My partner had infected moscullum. He got given penicillin and this little bottle of stuff I had to dab on each individual spot.

Many thanks for these comments. I think it looks infected too and I'm really unhappy with the GP who gave a steroid cream instead of antibiotics. It's really impacting her life at the moment and looks so sore. Back to the GP tomorrow (if I can get an appointment that is!)

Will a pharmacy prescribe for that? I know they have more latitude now, but dont know the exact details

ilostmyhearttoastarshiptrouper · 27/10/2024 12:23

@needhelpwiththisplease I don't think it can be anything like that as she's fit and well in herself. It's very much isolated to this one area too.

Could it be Hydradenitis Suppuritiva?

QuestionableMouse · 27/10/2024 13:00

Can you post a clearer photo?

MotherJessAndKittens · 27/10/2024 13:03

Could be impetigo but whatever it looks infected and needs antibiotics. Good that she is keeping legs apart. Keep her nails short as well and discourage scratching. Must be so uncomfortable.

Skykidsspy · 27/10/2024 13:12

If it’s molloscum, this worked for my daughter.

the GP was useless and it was really bothering her. I found a study to say that treating with zinc oxide cream containing colloidal oatmeal extracts (Avena rhealba) was effective and this cream has those ingredients

Infected molluscum.

I had the same as a child, it's absolutely horrible and so sore. She needs an antibiotic cream.

ilostmyhearttoastarshiptrouper · 27/10/2024 20:26

@Skykidsspy useless GPs have been my experience too. The pharmacist said he couldn't prescribe anything and that we needed a GP.

I'll try to get a better photo...

I think this is a clearer photo of it. It's just awful and affecting her enjoyment of life so much.

Bless her. So sore.
It does look like Molloscum but infected.

dementedpixie · 27/10/2024 20:31

Could you stick a large non adherent dressing over it to stop it rubbing on clothes?

Haggisfish3 · 27/10/2024 20:32

My ds had similar. Also molloscum. He just reacted to it really badly.

ilostmyhearttoastarshiptrouper · 27/10/2024 20:32

@dementedpixie it's quite a significant size to hard to cover.

She says it's not itchy- just very sore

coffeesaveslives · 27/10/2024 20:50

100% looks like molluscum which is what I had. It is incredibly painful - took me ages to get rid of it unfortunately.

ilostmyhearttoastarshiptrouper · 27/10/2024 21:00

@coffeesaveslives did you use anything to get rid of it/soothe it?

I honestly couldn't tell you, it was about 20 years ago unfortunately!

I have a feeling it was probably sudocrem or something similar and just a lot of time, unfortunately.

I would try the cream:

Aderma Cytelium Drying Spray Soothing

The GP can prescribe antibacterial cream but nhs guidance is to run its course so they won’t do much. The above cream worked for us though
