To feel like things are celebrated for the sake of social media posts?

I realise I could just not use social media. It seems now like things like Halloween are just used for social media posts. "Boo" boxes?? Someone I've got on Facebook has just uploaded 100 photos of their child's "first halloween" - is celebrating a baby's first Halloween a thing?

Delete the social media and do activities where you can actively avoid these people. That's what we do. Not everyone is like this.

I'd far rather have a walk in the woods and enjoy the autumn colours, do some craft and have nice food at home, watch a spooky film.

But weirdly, some people do both.

Why would there be an assumption that people don’t also have a walk in the woods and enjoy the autumn colours? Or do crafts, have nice food at home and watch a spooky film?

Or any other things they enjoy?

And yet I have photos of my first Halloween almost 40 years ago, I was the only child but my mum dressed me up and my granny threw a Halloween party for me in her living room with a little bowl of treats.
No SM.

I love this 🥰

My mum was an Akela when I was little and every year did a Halloween party for her cubs. We did apple bobbing, melted marshmallows on a fire and stuck them between two chocolate biscuits and did trick or treat boxes. They were cardboard boxes open one side and with a hole cut out for your hand to go through the other. In the box was a trick which was cold tinned spaghetti in a bowl (worms), peeled grapes (eyes), jelly and shaving foam. Or you could be lucky and get the treat which was a small chocolate bar or lollipop. I remember the fun we had but there were no photos. I do remember my mum telling her cubs to tell their parents what the best bit was.

All these things wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for social media. I am so glad I grew up before all this nonsense started.

I've decorated for the seasons for decades, as have my parents and grandparents. We've always had an easter tree and a Christmas eve box. Our Christmas eve box is over a hundred years old. Things happened before social media. Most of what's on social media isn't new. Just more plasticky and cheap, which I don't buy into.
