Without asking. She came home like this.
Are there any hairdressers here who can recommend what to do?

I wouldn’t be leaving my dd with her again.
Is your mum ok?

I’m concerned about this too.

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/10/2024 21:50

Is your dd ok about this? I think taking her to the hairdresser is the only way to sort it.

Cut into a short baby fringe and it will grow. I would warn mum though that I can't leave dd with her if she can't be trusted!

sparemeatyre · 25/10/2024 21:50

Mum has more than glaucoma !!

Relax for a day or 2, see what can be done. Don’t want hairdresser chopping it all off.

Maybe can try off center parting & clip, 2-3 months fringe be good length.

My opinion, you will be less happy after hairdresser tries to blend it in with layers and you get a 1972 shag-do

Soubriquet · 25/10/2024 21:51

My grandmother did the same thing one year. Dd had a horrible dorky fringe once Christmas. We had a strong word with her about it and she’s never done it again. Course dd is now old enough to say no. At the time she was around 3 or 4

cookiebee · 25/10/2024 21:51

Jesus, chill out everyone, it will grow back!

CobbldyCook · 25/10/2024 21:52

Don’t worry about the hair. Trim it and put hair slides in. It’ll grow back in time. No harm done. Make a fuss and you risk upsetting your daughter about something that really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. I think it’s a good idea to have a calm chat with your mum to see how this happened and whether she is coping ok.

Attelina · 25/10/2024 21:52

Absolutely no reason to cut the child's hair especially as she had access to clips and bobbles.

I would make her pay for the hairdressers appointment to even the fringe out.

I would also tell her never to do it again.

As a former hairdresser, I would recommend hair clips/bands for a few weeks until it grows long enough to feather a little and turn into a sweeping side fringe/curtain bangs until it grows out.

It is not sectioned properly and doing anything to straighten it up will entail cutting it shorter and prolong the growing-out stage.

Nicebloomers · 25/10/2024 21:55

Side parting and clippies until it grows back enough to be neatened up properly.

Gnomy · 25/10/2024 21:57

Kids can get away with dodgy cuts, no biggie. Hair band/clips etc.

Your DM however, she needs a talking to. WTAF.

KidneyBowl · 25/10/2024 21:58

That would be the last time she looked after my child, I’m guessing she didn’t have a fringe before. But worse she knew she fucked up and tried to hide it.

IKR? Apoplectic over a haircut 🙄Do people on MN have rage issues or just prone to exaggerating?

BIossomtoes · 25/10/2024 22:04

Hair grows. 🤷‍♀️

Changingplace · 25/10/2024 22:04

Oh Jesus that’s a bad cut, why?? What was she trying to do? Did she have a fringe before and she was trying to trim it?

I think get her a hairband and clips for a few weeks until it grows back, six weeks or so and it’ll be back to normal.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 25/10/2024 22:07

Are you sure your mum is trying to cover for your daughter getting hold of scissors?!

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 25/10/2024 22:07

That is very funny! A crap self done hairstyle is a right of passage. I'd double check it was your mum before you say anything.

Talapia · 25/10/2024 22:07

Lord, it's like my hair in the 1970's.😂

It will grow, but make it clear to your mum that she is not a hairdresser!

Pennyplant19 · 25/10/2024 22:08

My Mum did this to my daughter when she was around 5. I was livid! She was apparently helping as she claimed my daughter 'couldn't see' so hacked cut a horrendous fringe. My daughter is 27 now, my poor old Mum has advanced Dementia - we smile about it now 🤭

It only works on the model as she is and adult, incredibly feminine and wearing loads of makeup

sillyme563 · 25/10/2024 22:10

She has a heavy fringe, and this is a small layer of it that's been cut. The whole thing was in her eyes so I'm guessing she cut it, it wasn't even, she cut it a bit more, it wasn't even, etc etc.

I'm a bit mad at her but it will grow back and it's not the end of the world. I think it's salvageable as the heavy fringe (which is still intact) might be able to cover it, or as others have said just fix it with clips etc - after all I didn't even notice until several hours after she was dropped back.

DD is barely two and can't hold scissors, and has no idea what's gone on. While she's asleep and not wriggling about I might try to assess the damage and keep you updated!
